Overview
The Infernal Rouge is what Soul’s story-started Sanguine was always going to become. The in-game weapon list describes it plainly: “Soul Tempered from Sanguine, Infernal Rouge is the legendary heirloom of the Bastion of Mó” — a one-handed blade that conceals secrets tied to Soul’s origins. Mechanically it is the starting sword’s endgame answer: same comfortable one-handed moveset, far higher stats, and three Bloodline skills no other weapon in Phantom Blade Zero carries.

For where this fits in the full armory, see the all weapons list; the tempering system itself is covered in the Soul Tempering guide.
How to Get Infernal Rouge
You need three things, and one of them is a campaign-long commitment:
- The Sanguine. Soul’s default starting blade. Never sells, never leaves your inventory — it waits patiently for its promotion.
- The Bastion of Mó Mask. The reward for winning the fifth Long Pillar trial inside the Bloodline Awakening tale. Per AllThingsHow’s and Gfinity’s launch guides, the first four trials are escalating duels against the Gold-Masked One, while the fifth trial is a different opponent entirely: Mó Yuán, Leader of the Bastion of Mó. The mask you receive is literally his — the card text confirms its purpose: “Used to Soul Temper Sanguine.” The full fight breakdown lives in our Mó Yuán boss guide.
- 5,000 Remnant Dust. Farmed from any region; the Remnant Dust farming route is the fastest honest path.
With all three in hand, find Myst in Pangzhen, in the Order’s underground tavern. Speak to Myst, choose Soul Temper, select the Sanguine, and the upgrade line reads: “Soul Tempers into Infernal Rouge, the heirloom weapon of the Bastion of Mó.” Pay the cost, and the transformation is permanent — the Sanguine card disappears and the Infernal Rouge takes its slot.
One planning note: tempering replaces the Sanguine rather than copying it, so you are choosing between keeping the familiar blade and upgrading it. The Infernal Rouge keeps the one-handed class and its trait timings, so in practice it plays like your old sword with a second life stapled on — and by the fifth pillar, most players have long outgrown the base Sanguine’s stats anyway.
The Three Bloodline Skills
What you are paying 5,000 Remnant Dust for is a skill kit no boss-drop weapon matches:
| Skill | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bloodline Rebirth | Passive | On fatal damage, fully restore HP and raise Attack. HP then drains continuously and cannot be actively healed; the state ends once 50 percent of Max HP is lost to the drain. Re-arms only after touching a Bell or respawning. Triggers before any other revival effect. |
| Bloodline Awakening | 1 Sha-Chi Essence | Transform into “Phantom Soul” for 10 seconds: Attack and Defense greatly increased, and every attack unleashes blade waves. |
| Phantom Blade | 1 Sha-Chi Essence (during Awakening) | Consume a second essence to unleash a storm of interwoven blade waves. Unblockable — and using it ends Bloodline Awakening. |
Read the kit as a story in three acts. Bloodline Rebirth forgives one death per life and, per the game’s own priority rules, fires before accessories or other revival effects — a hard floor under any boss attempt. Bloodline Awakening is the burst: ten seconds where every swing projects a blade wave. Phantom Blade is the curtain: a second-essence, unblockable wave storm fired at the end of the window to cash out before Awakening expires. Rebirth as insurance, Awakening on a stagger, Phantom Blade as the finisher — the weapon effectively carries a second health bar and a third damage bar.
Traits and Leveling
Per the launch databases, the Infernal Rouge fields four traits on the standard one-handed schedule:
| Level | Trait | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Chi-Infused Blade | Infuse the blade with chi, greatly increasing damage for 40 seconds. |
| 10 | Phantom Execution Lv. 1 | Shared one-handed art: at over 90 percent Sha-Chi, instantly close in and slash for severe damage, consuming all Sha-Chi and locking weapon swaps for 15 seconds. |
| 15 | Drifting Clouds | After any combo, chain into an additional follow-up move. |
| 25 | Flowing Water | After any combo, chain into a further follow-up move. |
The two combo-extender traits at 15 and 25 matter more here than on most blades, because every extra hit in a string is another blade wave during Bloodline Awakening. There is also an achievement attached: The Flame Within, unlocked by unleashing the Infernal Rouge’s L2 weapon skill (listed by kungfupunk as Crimson Tide) — one of the usage achievements completionists will want to tick deliberately.
Verdict
The Infernal Rouge is the answer to “is the starting weapon viable at endgame?” — earned twice over. Survive to the fifth Long Pillar trial and beat Mó Yuán for the mask, pay Myst the transformation cost, and what comes back is the most forgiving weapon in Phantom Blade Zero: a one-handed blade carrying its own revive, its own burst form, and an unblockable finisher, on top of top-tier level-60 stats. Temper early, temper proudly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Infernal Rouge missable?
The temper itself cannot be missed — the Long Pillars stay available deep into the endgame, and Bloodline Awakening only locks when the Leng Tu finale begins. Finish the fifth trial before that point and the mask is yours.
Does Bloodline Rebirth work against bosses?
Yes. It triggers on any fatal damage from any source. The catch is the aftermath: your HP drains and cannot be healed during the state, so treat the revived window as a ten-to-twenty-second race to finish the fight or force a phase change, not a fresh start.
Can I get the Sanguine back after tempering?
Not on the same save — the temper is irreversible and replaces the base blade. If you want the Sanguine’s feel back, that is what a New Game Plus cycle is for; the Infernal Rouge itself carries over into NG+.
