FAQ

What bosses does Leng Tu summon in Phantom Blade Zero?
Three waves: the Puppet Scavenger alone first, then Cavalrybane and Heartpiercer as a duo, then the puppets Yubi and Yuding as a duo. Between waves, allies summoned by Inanis — Peng Meng, the Blizzard Blademaster, Flame, and Lei Dang — rotate in to fight beside Soul.
What does Leng Tu drop?
Nothing. KeenGamer's boss roster and Rock Paper Shotgun's list both record no reward for Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil. His fight is a gate, not a loot pinata.
How much HP does Leng Tu have?
83,295 HP at Level 25 on Wayfarer difficulty, with 142.93 Attack and 7,672.5 Sha-Chi, per the wikily database. The th.gl database records the same encounter values.
Is Leng Tu the final boss?
No. Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil, follows him immediately at Soulrend Cliff. On the true-ending route, a golden portal past Meng Hua leads to one more duel with Zuo Shang — see the true ending guide.

Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil, towers over Soul at Soulrend Cliff on Mount Soulrend

Who Is Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil?

Every Acolyte you cut down across the game answered to one voice. Leng Tu, the Herald of the Veil, is that voice made flesh: a giant figure in a tall hat and dark robes who meets Soul at Soulrend Cliff on Mount Soulrend, past the Soulrend Cliff bell and just before Meng Hua in every ending except Undying Grudge. His monologue lays the endgame bare — Soul Displacement, the Radiant Heart, the Perfect Vessel, all of it “to summon the Lady back into the Waking Realm.” When Soul answers that the Wulin has been underestimated, the Herald laughs, calls the world’s power his Lady’s, and starts pulling old enemies out of the air.

He is fought boss 60 of 62 in KeenGamer’s roster — the last gate before the Lady herself.

The Soulrend Cliff Gauntlet Structure

Leng Tu does not fight you first. He fights you through the game’s graveyard, and the phantomblade.guide evidence log captures the exact rhythm of the encounter:

  1. The Puppet Scavenger opens the battle under its own name bar — a single warm-up duel to drain your flasks before the real test.
  2. Cavalrybane and Heartpiercer arrive together, two Elite Shadow Wardens side by side. “Even the Order’s Shadow Wardens will bow to me!” the Herald crows. This is a two-on-one rematch — pick one warden and focus it down, exactly as covered on their pages for Cavalrybane and Heartpiercer.
  3. Yubi and Yuding come next as the “vessels” pair — “Offer your lives to the Lady!” — the two puppets fighting as they did in their own duels, with Yuding’s sideways jade slash and Yubi’s bladed-leg pressure forcing you to split attention. Their individual breakdowns live on the Yubi and Yuding pages.

You are not alone in this. Between waves, Inanis calls up the lingering spirits of the righteous, and your former enemies-turned-allies rotate through: Peng Meng the axemaster steps in first, then the Blizzard Blademaster, then Flame with a parting lesson about the lion head, and finally Lei Dang — “Let’s fight together… like old times!” Each ally soaks aggro and deals real damage; use their windows to heal, re-buff, and reposition.

Phase 4: Leng Tu Himself

Frustrated, the Herald descends: “Come! I’ll face you myself!” The giant shrinks to Soul’s own scale, name bar reading Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil, purple light coiling around his blade. At this point his stats, per the wikily and th.gl databases, are Level 25 with 83,295 HP on Wayfarer — 142.93 Attack and a 7,672.5 Sha-Chi pool. He fights as a Dusk-style caster, barraging the arena with chaos fire and chaos orbs while mixing in melee strings, and keengamer’s records confirm the fight ends with no drop.

The gauntlet structure is the difficulty. By the time the Herald’s own bar appears, your flasks and your focus are the real boss — every wasted heal in wave two is debt you pay in wave four.

Surviving Each Wave

The wheel battle rewards discipline more than damage. Wave one is a trap: the Puppet Scavenger dies fast, but every flask you burn on it is a flask Leng Tu inherits. Clear it with fundamentals — block strings, parry the final hit of its lunges — and bank your resources. Wave two is a threat-priority test. Cavalrybane’s Armybreaker swings cover huge arcs while Heartpiercer’s spinning axes pressure from range, so commit to one target the moment the bars appear; halving the duo’s damage output early matters more than which one you pick. Wave three inverts the problem — Yubi and Yuding were designed as solo duelists, so their paired pressure staggers: let one puppet commit to a full string, dodge it cleanly, and counter the other mid-recovery. Yuding’s sideways jade slash in particular leaves her wide open if you Ghoststep through it. Between every wave, spend the ally window deliberately: heal to full, refresh any Bell buffs, and walk — do not sprint — to the arena’s center so neither spawn catches you at the wall.

Where Leng Tu Sits in the Ending Fork

Leng Tu is the penultimate wall of the mount, not the last. The Last Chance bell below Soulrend Cliff is the game’s final point of no return: finish every purple Tale, all five Long Pillars, the Acolyte Masks, and Quick Hand Zhang’s requests before crossing, or the door behind you stays shut until an ending plays. Beat Leng Tu, then Meng Hua, and — if every requirement is met — a golden portal opens at the top of the cliff, leading to the exclusive final duel detailed in our true ending guide. That portal is the entire reason to take this gauntlet seriously: it is the doorway between the normal ending and the Final Battle route.

Tips for the Leng Tu Fight

  1. Bank resources for the Herald. The Puppet Scavenger wave is designed to bleed you. Spend the minimum, even if it means a slower clear.
  2. Focus-fire each duo. Half-dead pairs of wardens and puppets are more dangerous than one fresh corpse and one angry survivor.
  3. Let allies tank. When Peng Meng, Flame, or Lei Dang holds aggro, spend the window on Bells, healing, and Sha-Chi — not on greed. Their damage is real, but their true value is keeping the Herald’s summons pointed anywhere but at you.
  4. Respect the purple cast. Leng Tu’s chaos orbs track loosely but hit hard; sidestep on approach rather than dodging late.
  5. Enter rested. Rest at The Last Chance bell before the ascent; the entire sequence from Crusher and Saw to Meng Hua runs on one long leash.
