FAQ

How do you get the Dance Fan in Phantom Blade Zero?
Complete The Star Performer in Pangzhen. Speak to the Leading Opera Actress in Myst's Tavern, burn her Leading Actress's Rouge in the censer by Tianxiang Pavilion to reveal the Ha-Ha enemies, take the Tianxiang Pavilion Key, and bring her back the Tattered Dance Fan from the third floor.
What does the Dance Fan accessory do?
It scales the damage of your attacks based on how far Soul travels during the attack sequence, up to a maximum of 40 percent more damage — a top-tier pick for mobile, combo-heavy builds.
Is The Star Performer missable?
No. The tale stays open after the credits and carries no trophy, but its Tianxiang Pavilion Key also unlocks Quick Hand Zhang's Tiger Paperweight treasure, so finish it while you are in Pangzhen.

The Star Performer sends Soul from Myst’s Tavern to the locked Tianxiang Pavilion in Pangzhen

The Star Performer is Phantom Blade Zero’s opera-house mystery — a ten-minute tale in Pangzhen that quietly unlocks one of the best damage accessories in the game. A famous performer sits in Myst’s Tavern mourning a fan she left behind in the locked Tianxiang Pavilion, and her little jar of rouge is the key to getting it back. Literally. Finish this before leaving the city: the Dance Fan rewards aggression, and the pavilion key opens doors beyond this quest.

Step 1: Speak to the Leading Opera Actress at Myst’s Tavern

Once your story progress opens Pangzhen and you reach Myst’s Tavern — the underground tavern where Myst gathers his informants — look for the Leading Opera Actress among the patrons. PowerPyx’s Pangzhen collectible route lists her tale right beside the tavern bell; keengamer’s Tales guide confirms she is the sole quest giver.

Talk to her. She explains her Dance Fan was left inside Tianxiang Pavilion, and the doorman guarding its key has gone to ground. She presses the Leading Actress’s Rouge into your hand: burn it in the censer near the pavilion and the man who catches its scent will not be able to stay hidden. The tale begins: “Lure out the Tianxiang Pavilion doorman in the alley beside the Pangzhen Opera Stage.” Like every Myst’s Tavern tale, it has no timer — the only pressure is your own route through Pangzhen.

Step 2: Burn the Rouge, Beat the Ha-Ha, Take the Key

Exit the tavern back toward the square where you fought Cavalrybane, the Elite Shadow Warden. From that arena, slip into the alley beside the opera stage (the alleyway on your right as you come out) and interact with the censer/incense burner there. Use the rouge.

The trick works instantly: the scent draws out a pack of Ha-Ha enemies that were hidden in the alley. Defeat them, and one drops the Tianxiang Pavilion Key — the doorman’s prize is yours.

A wrong turn here is common: the locked pavilion door sits on the main street and looks like scenery. If you cannot interact with it, you skipped the censer — the key only exists after the alley fight.

Step 3: Climb Tianxiang Pavilion

Unlock the pavilion and sweep it floor by floor. The building is small but dense, and it holds more than the quest item:

  • Second floor: a back-room chest holds the Tiger Paperweight — one of Quick Hand Zhang’s Pangzhen treasures. Even if you have not started his chain, grab it now; the pavilion locks again behind you later only in spirit, but a second trip is a waste of a Bell.
  • Third floor: clear the remaining puppets, then loot the floor — a Refined Indigo Crystal, two Traversal Talismans, and the Dancer’s Ribbon, a Soul Tempering material tracked in the Soul Temper materials hub.
  • The dancer: on the top floor, a lone figure dances in the center of the room. Approach and interact. The dancer dissolves into flower petals and drops the Tattered Dance Fan — the Leading Opera Actress’s stolen property, and the tale’s quest item.

Step 4: Return the Fan for the Dance Fan Accessory

Bell or walk back to Myst’s Tavern and hand the Tattered Dance Fan to the Leading Opera Actress. She rewards you with the Dance Fan accessory:

Damage scales with the distance Soul travels during an attack sequence, up to +40% at maximum travel.

In practice, the Dance Fan pays out for exactly the playstyle Phantom Blade Zero encourages — dashing strings, lunging arts, and Phantom Edge combos that carry Soul across the arena. Stationary poke builds get little from it; mobile builds get a permanent boss-melting multiplier. It is one of the strongest free damage accessories in the game and requires nothing but this tale. If you are unsure whether it beats your current equip, test it on a boss rematch: the gap-closing phases of any weapon art count toward the travel distance.

While You Are at Myst’s Tavern

The Star Performer anchors a three-tale cluster in and around the tavern district — batch them into one Pangzhen session:

  • The Cube — talk to the Fisherman inside Myst’s Tavern about his two missing companions, then investigate Meigu Lake for the Cube pieces. The reward is the Remnant Spark Cube accessory.
  • Don’t Forget Me — find the woman on the Pangzhen inn rooftop repeating a name: Senior Brother Zhou. Her tale runs long, through the Mountain of Imprisonment and back to Yuling with a final letter, so accept it early even if you finish it late.

All three are logged in the all-tales roster and none of them is missable, but the tavern’s tales interlock with the rest of the city — Zhang’s treasure hunt, the Huang Manor investigation, the Soul Tempering economy — so clearing them early keeps your mid-game clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Tianxiang Pavilion Key?

Drops from the Ha-Ha enemies you reveal by burning the Leading Actress’s Rouge in the censer in the alley beside the Pangzhen Opera Stage, near where you fought Cavalrybane. You cannot loot or pick the pavilion door without it.

Is the Dance Fan worth using over other accessories?

If your build moves — dash attacks, lunging weapon arts, gap-closing Phantom Edges — yes, up to 40% is among the highest unconditional damage bonuses available. If you fight stationary, treat it as a swap-in for mobile boss fights.

What else is inside Tianxiang Pavilion?

Besides the Tattered Dance Fan: Quick Hand Zhang’s Tiger Paperweight treasure on the second floor, and on the third a Refined Indigo Crystal, two Traversal Talismans, and the Dancer’s Ribbon Soul Tempering material.
