FAQ

How many Memory Flowers are in the Crimson Forest?
IGN's walkthrough counts 16 flowers on a first pass through the region, while GameSpot's set-by-set guide tracks 18 petals across six named sets — the gap comes from petals that require backtracking with later-game tools.
What do Memory Flowers do in Phantom Blade Zero?
Each flower is a lore fragment, and completing a full petal set permanently increases Soul's maximum health. The six Crimson Forest sets are worth +5%, +7%, +7%, +5%, +10%, and +5% max HP respectively — up to +39% in total.
Are any Crimson Forest Memory Flowers missable?
None are permanently missable before the finale, but two petals need return trips: one On Perfect Transcension petal sits behind an arrow trap that requires the Bastion Phantom Edge from the Village of Lu.
Should I collect all flowers before the Crimson Forest boss?
GameSpot recommends banking all Inanis and Bai Chilian petals before facing Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents — the set completion affects the climax of the region's story and the health helps.

How Memory Flowers Work

Memory Flowers are glowing blue blossoms scattered across the Wulin, and the Crimson Forest — Phantom Blade Zero’s second region — is where the game teaches you to hunt them properly. Each flower replays a fragment of a character’s memory, but they are far more than lore: Memory Flowers are your primary means of permanently increasing Soul’s maximum health. The catch is that single petals do nothing on their own — you must complete a named set of one to six petals to bank the bonus, and some sets span return trips with equipment you will not have on a first pass.

The Six Crimson Forest Sets and the Health Chain

GameSpot’s set-by-set breakdown gives the full reward chain for the region:

Set Petals Max HP bonus
Memory Flower Left by Inanis 1 +5%
Fellow Disciples 3 +7%
On Perfect Transcension 4 +7%
Stone Hand Iron Fever’s Memory Flower 2 +5%
Inanis’ Memory Flower 6 +10%
Bai Chilian’s Memory Flower 2 +5%

Cleared in full, that is up to +39% maximum health from one region — the single biggest early-game survivability jump available, worth more than any trinket you will find before Meigu Lake. One note on counts: IGN’s walkthrough logs 16 flowers on a clean pass, while GameSpot’s set tally reaches 18 petals across the same six sets. The difference is backtracking — at least one On Perfect Transcension petal is physically unreachable until you own the Bastion Phantom Edge from the Village of Lu.

All 16 Crimson Forest Memory Flower Locations

In main-path order, following IGN’s numbering:

  1. Crane Bell — right beside the bell, immediately after the opening cutscene with Lady Inaris. This is the one-petal tutorial set and pays its +5% alone.
  2. Broken bridge — after beating Hua Qianxiao, drop off the bridge edge, turn around, and cross the gap with the Chain Sickle Phantom Edge. Three enemy dogs guard the flower.
  3. Quick Hand Zhang’s cavern — inside the cave you enter to free him from the hanging cage, on the ledge below. His wider treasure chain is covered in our Quick Hand Zhang guide.
  4. Outlaw Trap Bell — head right along the dirt path; a mounted enemy and a thief guard the petal.
  5. Post-Jing the Outlaw — go left from the arena, and just before the wooden bridge drop onto the small ledge on your right.
  6. Village cavern — across the bridge into the small village, take the left wooden path bending around the mountain; the flower sits right inside the cavern.
  7. Crimson Forest Cellar — in the cliffside residence, drop between the two wooden scaffolds on the first floor; the petal is tucked into the chasm. Grab the Thieves’ Camp Dungeon Key here too.
  8. Mirrorwood Entrance — after the Smasher ambush chase, directly in front of you at the entrance.
  9. Iron Fever ridge — on the ridge just north of the arena after the Iron Fever fight.
  10. Arena overlook — from flower 9, turn back toward where you dropped in and climb the uphill path right of the entrance; the petal waits at the top.
  11. Burial Grounds Bell — right beside the bell; clear the surrounding enemies first.
  12. Fog woods — past the Burial Grounds, as soon as the path enters the wooded stretch toward the Banyan Tree.
  13. Ledge drop — head north from flower 12 and drop off the ledge at the edge of the area.
  14. Riverbed — across the shallow pond, tucked by the entrance to the next Mirrorwood section; also check the ledge overlooking the pond and the Mirrorwood Depths bell for the rest of the Inanis set.
  15. Mirrorwood maze — the Inanis set’s final petal sits in the middle of the portal-puzzle area.
  16. Portal puzzle pair — as you solve the Mirrorwood portals, Bai Chilian’s two petals appear on the ground mid-puzzle, completing the region’s sets.

Backtrack flag: the fourth On Perfect Transcension petal is behind the Thieves’ Camp locked door, where an arrow trap blocks the corridor. Come back once the Bastion shield from the Village of Lu can walk you through it — the exit leads to a cliffside ledge with the petal and extra loot.

Why These Flowers Matter Beyond Health

The Crimson Forest sets are the start of a game-wide chain. Later regions tie Memory Flower sets directly to major gates — the six Firefly Memory Flowers in the Village of Lu unlock the hidden boss Dusk, the Puppeteer and his Illusory Pipa Head, which feeds the true-ending route mapped in our all endings guide. Building the collection habit here also pays off in raw survivability: if the region’s later fights are shredding you, finishing these sets is the fix, and our beginner guide and combat system guide cover the fundamentals that pair with the extra health. GameSpot additionally recommends collecting all Inanis and Bai Chilian petals before the region’s final boss — the completed sets make the climax play out the way it should.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Memory Flowers respawn or carry into New Game+? Community mapping is still in progress on New Game+ behavior; treat each set as a one-time pickup per playthrough for now.

Can I finish the Inanis set before Iron Fever? No — its petals are spread across the whole back half of the region, from the post-Iron Fever tunnel fork through the Mirrorwood maze, so the set completes naturally as you push toward the boss.

Do the flowers mark on the map? The six-petal Inanis set shows map icons as you approach; most others do not, which is why the ledge drops at flowers 5, 7, and 13 are the ones players most commonly miss.
