FAQ

Where are the five ribbons in the Village of Lu?
On the tree by the bridge after Zhuo Bi, on the Covered Bridge (clear the Puppet Spearman in the coffin first), tied to The Lady Grounds bell after Master Bi Yuan, in front of the Temple of Blue Fireflies, and on the wooden bridge Beneath the Well.
What happens if you fight Mu Xiaokui without all five ribbons?
You lose her secret third phase and its exclusive rewards: the Fiend Saws dual weapon and the Fist Fragment: Core. Finish the Young Mistress quest before riding the Puppet Testing Grounds elevator.
How do you unseal the Well of the Three Puppets?
Lay the three masters to rest: defeat Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect at the Statue Grounds, defeat Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple, and destroy the unresponsive figure wired into the machine at the Engine Giant Remains.
Is anything missable in the Village of Lu?
Yes: the Wounded Thief's Arrowward hand-in, the Wild Oriole Sword on the dock after Mu Xiaokui (the elevator breaks when you leave), and telling Young Master Lan the tunnel is clear before entering Pangzhen.

The Village of Lu is Phantom Blade Zero’s third major region, and it punishes completionists who rush: a boss-changing collectible quest, a sealed hidden boss, and several missable hand-ins hide inside its lanes. This Village of Lu walkthrough works as a 100% hub — the five Young Mistress ribbons, the three masters who unseal the well, the Memory Flower sets, and everything to finish before the elevator.

Arriving: Jewel, the Crossroads, and Old Man Gen

Soul wakes at the Place of Awakening bell carrying the broken Illusory Pipa. Follow the path to Jewel, who introduces accessory upgrading — open the golden chest behind her for Jewel’s Knot before moving on. Down the mountain sits the Crossroads bell, and the fork matters:

  • Right path: the Mandate Encampment Outer Gate. It is locked, and the key only turns up later in Pangzhen — our Mandate Encampment walkthrough covers the chain. Tag the bell and grab the Transcension Defyers Memory Flower beside it.
  • Lower path: Old Man Gen, who starts The Journey Home and unlocks Leave None Alive, a revenge errand through earlier regions.

All Five Ribbons: The Young Mistress Quest

The village’s signature collectible quest is Young Mistress: five red ribbons left behind by Mu Xiaokui, each playing a short dialogue; their tied bells chime as you approach. In the order most players meet them:

  1. Bridge tree. After beating Zhuo Bi, climb the stairs instead of entering the blue-flower compound — the ribbon hangs on a tree by the bridge to the Well of the Three Puppets.
  2. Covered Bridge. The bridge is webbed shut with threads. From Zhang’s Hideout, drop toward the altar building, break the gate, and kill the Puppet Spearman inside the upright coffin to clear them.
  3. The Lady Grounds bell. Appears after the Master Bi Yuan fight at the Statue Grounds; the ribbon is tied to the bell itself.
  4. Temple of Blue Fireflies. Tied to a tree left of the temple entrance.
  5. Beneath the Well. On the right at the start of the wooden bridge, just past the well drop.

The full route lives on our Young Mistress quest page. One hard rule: finish all five before the Puppet Testing Grounds elevator. The quest modifies the region’s final boss, and the window closes.

The Three Masters and the Well of the Three Puppets

The main quest Heartless Remnants asks you to find the bodies of three masters and lay them to rest; their threads seal the well:

  • Master Bi Yuan of the Tianxuan Sect — the arena beyond the Statue Grounds Entrance bell.
  • Master Bi Hai of Kuye Temple — the second master duel in the village’s grounds.
  • The Engine Giant Remains — the unclear one. Inside the northeast building, a figure hangs wired into the machine by a blade. It never fights back; attack it until it breaks.

With the seals gone, drop into the well. The underground path ends at the Puppet Testing Grounds and Yuzan, No. 3 Musician Puppet — parry her white orbs back and stay clear of the black hole she summons at roughly 60% and 30% HP. She drops the Heartrend Pipa, and the portal beyond her arena is the first of the three portals in the Puppet’s Tongue key chain.

Memory Flowers and the Hidden Boss

The village carries several Memory Flower sets — Firefly, Villagers of Lu, Wulin Fighters, Transcension Defyers — and completing sets permanently raises max HP, same as the system explained in our Crimson Forest Memory Flower guide. The six Firefly Memory Flowers matter most: collecting all six drops the barrier on the dark pit in the village’s east and opens the fight against Dusk, the Puppeteer, who holds the Illusory Pipa Head. The unlock and fight breakdown are in our Dusk the Puppeteer guide. The first Firefly flower also starts Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, the true-ending questline.

Zhuo Bi and Mu Xiaokui: The Boss Spine

Two fights bookend the region. Zhuo Bi, the Gatekeeper guards the entrance behind a heavy shield — a Shieldbreaker Talisman shreds his guard — and drops the Bastion Phantom Edge, which also opens arrow-trap chests in the Crimson Forest. Up the elevator waits Mu Xiaokui, the Young Mistress of the Order. With all five ribbons banked she gains a third phase, and beating that version pays out the Fiend Saws and a Fist Fragment: Core on top of the standard rewards. Either way, take the Wild Oriole Sword from the dock the moment she falls — leave, and the elevator breaks with the sword still below.

Before You Leave: The 100% Checklist

  • Wounded Thief at the Smuggler’s Tunnel Entrance — hand over the Thief’s Manual for Arrowward; he dies if you wait (missable).
  • Trapped Thief in the tunnels — the Tunnel Cage Key frees him; his reward, the Village of Lu Cellar Key, opens the Smuggler’s Treasure Cellar and the Remnant Spark Cage.
  • Young Master Lan — tell him the tunnel is clear; it becomes the Lan Manor Key in Pangzhen.
  • Old Man Gen — report the open road for Old Man Gen’s Brass Key.
  • Quick Hand Zhang’s three treasures — Wedding Candles, Twin Jade Pendant, Unveiled Statue — traded for Fine Thread; locations in our Quick Hand Zhang treasures guide.
  • Mother’s Talisman for the Sleeping Flower-Masked Weaver’s A Dream of Motherhood; the Stately Monk in Survivors’ Courtyard gives the Agarwood Prayer Beads.

The rest is tracked in our missable side quests guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Bastion before finishing the village? Zhuo Bi sits on the main path, so you will have it regardless — you will want it for the arrow-trap chest in the Crimson Forest’s Thief Camp.

How many Memory Flowers are in the Village of Lu? PowerPyx’s region count is 16 flowers across all sets, 76 collectibles in total; other trackers list fewer because some petals need late-game tools.

When should I come back? Twice at minimum: once with the Mandate Encampment Outer Gate Key from Pangzhen, and once late-game for the scarecrow near the Engine Giant Remains — Acolyte Yanru there drops a Blazing Mask.

Is the Village of Lu required for the true ending? Yes — Dusk’s Illusory Pipa Head and the Secrets at the Heart of the Lake flags both feed the true ending.
