FAQ

How many Crystal Puppet Eyes are there in Phantom Blade Zero?
Two: Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] and Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang]. Multiple outlets confirm the pair is a complete set — there is no third eye to hunt.
Where is Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin]?
Enter all three Three-Eyed Puppet portals — in the Village of Lu Puppet Testing Grounds, the Mandate Encampment final boss arena, and the Mountain of Imprisonment — then speak with the hanging puppet. It awards Eye [Yin] together with the Puppet Tongue.
Where is Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang]?
It drops from the Puppet Scavenger boss at the bottom of the Crimson Manor beneath the Sha-Chi tower in Weeping Creek Valley, alongside Hansui's Frost Mask and the Alloyed Scythe Blade.
What do the Crystal Puppet Eyes unlock?
Inside the Phantom Illusionist Ruins — reached through the Four Guardians Mirror on western Meigu Lake with all four Acolyte Masks — a statue appears after the chapter boss. Insert both eyes there as part of the Perfect Ending requirements.

How Many Crystal Puppet Eyes Exist?

Two. Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] and Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] form a complete pair — this is confirmed across multiple launch-week outlets, so you are not hunting a hidden third collectible. Both eyes feed a single use late in the game, and both sit near the end of long side-content chains. Plan for them as endgame pickups, not things you trip over.

The pair is a hard requirement on the Perfect Ending checklist, which makes this one of the highest-priority collection guides on the site.

Eye 1: Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] - The Three Portals

Eye [Yin] is the reward for the Herald’s Illusion thread, a three-portal scavenger hunt tied to the Three-Eyed Puppet. Each portal you enter causes the hanging puppet in its strange realm to open one eye:

  1. Village of Lu — in the Puppet Testing Grounds, reached by descending the well and defeating Yuzan, No. 3 Musician Puppet.
  2. Mandate Encampment — in the final boss arena. Reaching the Encampment means beating Gu Wanyue in the Pangzhen Backstreets, looting the key beneath the well, and clearing the whole zone. The full route is in the Puppet Tongue Key guide.
  3. Mountain of Imprisonment — in the final boss arena of this optional region. The region itself is gated behind the repaired Illusory Pipa, which dispels the Weeping Mistgate northeast of Meigu Lake — see the Illusory Pipa parts guide.

After the third portal, speak with the hanging puppet: it hands over Crystal Puppet Eye [Yin] together with the Puppet Tongue — the key to the Crimson Manor and therefore to the second eye. Some outlets describe Eye [Yin] simply as the reward for completing the Mountain of Imprisonment; every account agrees the third portal inside that region is the trigger point, so finishing the region and its portal covers you either way.

Eye 2: Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] - The Crimson Manor

Eye [Yang] drops from the Puppet Scavenger, the boss at the bottom of the Crimson Manor — a hidden dungeon beneath the Sha-Chi tower in Weeping Creek Valley:

  1. In the low water area near the tower base, bait a Powderkeg enemy into exploding against the cracked wall.
  2. Take the elevator down and open the Crimson Manor door with the Puppet Tongue.
  3. Descend the chasm by dropping from one row of strings to the next — do not jump blind.
  4. Ring the bell at the bottom to start the fight.

The Puppet Scavenger is slow but hits hard, and at 50% HP the fight becomes a duo: Acolyte Hansui freezes the Scavenger solid and attacks you with ice magic. Kill Hansui first — frost resistance accessories blunt her damage, and staying aggressive matters because her ranged ice spells punish passive play. Once she falls, the Scavenger stays frozen and you can carve through its remaining health safely. The combat system guide covers the parry timing you need for her strings.

The encounter pays out three items:

  • Crystal Puppet Eye [Yang] — the second eye.
  • Hansui’s Frost Mask — the fourth and final Acolyte Mask.
  • Alloyed Scythe Blade — tempering material that upgrades the Hunter’s Chain Sickle into the Gleaming Hook; see the Soul Tempering guide for the economics.

That single fight therefore completes two separate Perfect Ending tracks at once: the eye pair and the mask set.

Where to Use the Crystal Puppet Eyes

The eyes do nothing in your inventory — their use is inside the Phantom Illusionist Ruins:

  1. Collect all four Acolyte Masks (Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Meigu Lake, and Hansui from the Crimson Manor fight above).
  2. Take the Sha-Chi boat to the frozen shoals on the west side of Meigu Lake, dock near the snow-covered mountain, and walk forward to the mysterious Four Guardians Mirror.
  3. With all four masks, enter the mirror into the Phantom Illusionist Ruins and defeat the chapter-ending boss there.
  4. A statue appears — insert both Crystal Puppet Eyes.

The Ruins also hide the fourth Long Pillar, so one trip covers two requirements. Finish everything before the game’s two warnings — the Mirage Estate cutoff and The Last Chance bell in Mount Soulrend — and a completed checklist triggers the true final boss after the standard one falls.

Because the chains interlock, the cleanest order saves real backtracking:

  1. Clear the Village of Lu and the Mandate Encampment, entering each Three-Eyed Puppet portal as you reach it.
  2. Repair the Illusory Pipa and open the Weeping Mistgate.
  3. Finish the Mountain of Imprisonment and its portal — this banks Eye [Yin] and the Puppet Tongue.
  4. Run the Crimson Manor for Eye [Yang], Hansui’s Frost Mask, and the Alloyed Scythe Blade.
  5. Collect any missing Acolyte Masks, then sail to the Four Guardians Mirror and clear the Ruins.

Both fights along this route sit on the harder end of the optional roster — the complete boss list has stats and strategies for each one if you want to scout ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get Eye [Yang] before Eye [Yin]? No. The Crimson Manor door needs the Puppet Tongue, which the Three-Eyed Puppet hands over together with Eye [Yin]. The game enforces the order Yin first, Yang second.

Are the eyes missable? No region closes permanently before the finale, but both eyes must be socketed before you pass The Last Chance bell in Mount Soulrend. Treat the on-screen warnings as hard deadlines for the whole Perfect Ending checklist.

Do I need the Illusory Pipa for both eyes? Only for Eye [Yin] — the third portal sits in the Mountain of Imprisonment, which the pipa unlocks. The Crimson Manor chain itself needs no pipa, just the Puppet Tongue.
