FAQ

Where is the Alloyed Scythe Blade in Phantom Blade Zero?
It drops from the Puppet Scavenger boss at the bottom of the Crimson Manor, a hidden dungeon beneath Weeping Creek Valley's Sha-Chi tower. The manor door requires the Puppet Tongue Key.
What does the Alloyed Scythe Blade do?
It is the Soul Tempering material for the Hunter's Chain Sickle. Tempering at a Bell grants Gleaming Hook, which adds Bleed build-up to the grapple attack.
Is the Crimson Manor required for the true ending?
Yes. Beyond the blade, the Puppet Scavenger fight rewards the second Crystal Puppet Eye (Yang) and Hansui's Frost Mask — both on the Perfect Ending route.

Where Do You Find the Alloyed Scythe Blade?

The Alloyed Scythe Blade drops from a single source: the Puppet Scavenger, the boss waiting at the bottom of the Crimson Manor, a hidden dungeon beneath Weeping Creek Valley’s Sha-Chi tower. Unlike temper materials that sit out in the world, this one demands a boss kill behind one of the longest key chains in the game.

Property Detail
Type Soul Tempering material
Source Puppet Scavenger (Beneath Crimson Manor)
Tempers Hunter’s Chain Sickle → Gleaming Hook
Co-drops Second Crystal Puppet Eye (Yang), Hansui’s Frost Mask
Trophy Nothing Goes to Waste (defeat the Puppet Scavenger)

That co-drop line is the real story: this one fight feeds your build and the true ending route at the same time.

How Do You Unlock the Crimson Manor?

Finding the manor is the easy half. Toward the bottom of the Sha-Chi tower, in a low water-level passage, sits a cracked wall with a Powderkeg enemy wandering nearby. Bait the Powderkeg’s self-destruct against the wall — do not spend your own resources — then take the elevator behind it down to the manor door. The door is locked, and it wants the Puppet Tongue Key.

The key chain, in order:

  1. Defeat Gu Wanyue in Pangzhen’s Backstreets.
  2. Search beneath the well nearby for the Mandate’s Encampment key.
  3. Open the giant door at the Village of Lu entrance and clear the Mandate’s Encampment, including its chapter boss.
  4. Enter the portal that opens and claim the puppet’s tongue.
  5. Return to the elevator, unlock the manor, and descend.

Some guides frame the tongue hunt as part of a broader questline, The Herald’s Illusion, spanning three portals across the Village of Lu, the Mandate Encampment, and the Mountain of Imprisonment — a framing that also explains the Crystal Puppet Eye (Yin) handed over by the hanging puppet. Either way, expect this to be mid-to-late-game content. Every step is documented in the Puppet Tongue Key walkthrough.

How Do You Reach the Boss Inside the Manor?

The manor interior is a short but deliberate descent:

  • The second-floor library holds lore fragments and a Memory Flower on the balcony — grab it while you are here, since it counts toward the region set.
  • Past the tunnel, a chasm drops toward the bottom. Land on the rows of threads as you descend; clean drops mean fall damage.
  • At the bottom, a foreboding sight and a bell. Ringing the bell starts the fight.

How Do You Beat the Puppet Scavenger and Acolyte Hansui?

The Scavenger is a failed living puppet: a greatsword through its spine, an alloy scythe for a left arm, and Sha-Chi pouring out of it. The fight has two gears:

  • Phase one is only the Scavenger. Its scythe chops and body rolls are slow and clumsy — easy to block, and the second hit of a sequence flashes blue, so parry there and punish. Standard combat system discipline carries the phase.
  • At roughly 50% HP, Acolyte Hansui freezes the Scavenger and joins the fight. Switch targets: hit Hansui, not the frozen Scavenger. Her ice attacks can freeze you — move out of the ice circle on the floor, and never stand on her decoy when it bursts.
  • Once Hansui dies, finish the Scavenger. The whole encounter sequence then pays out at once.

What Does the Alloyed Scythe Blade Do?

It is the temper material that turns the Hunter’s Chain Sickle from a traversal tool into a combat engine. Take it to any Bell, run Soul Tempering on the sickle — Remnant Dust required on top, as with every temper — and you unlock Gleaming Hook: Bleed build-up on the grapple attack.

That matters because the grapple is already your best gap-closer and punish-window tool. Gleaming Hook means every reposition also advances a Hemorrhage, which converts mobility directly into damage.

Why Do True-Ending Runners Need It?

Three rewards drop from this encounter, and two of them are on the Perfect Ending checklist:

  • Second Crystal Puppet Eye (Yang) — paired with the Yin eye, used at the hidden area at Meigu Lake.
  • Hansui’s Frost Mask — one of the four Acolyte Masks required to open that same hidden area, where the Crystal Puppet Eyes are spent.

So even players who never touch a Bleed build cannot skip the Crimson Manor if they want the Perfect Ending. The blade is almost a bonus on top — but what a bonus.

What Build Does Gleaming Hook Complete?

Gleaming Hook is the final piece of the launch community’s strongest confirmed package:

  • Jagged Steel with Open Wounds — Bleed Gauge fills even through blocks (temper material: the Iron Butcher Mask from the Iron Butcher).
  • Hunter’s Chain Sickle with Gleaming Hook — Bleed build-up on grapples.
  • Livingwood Talisman — lets Bleed proc on Puppets.

Together, almost nothing in the game is immune to your pressure. The Alloyed Scythe Blade is the single gate between you and that setup — budget a session for the key chain and claim it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get the Alloyed Scythe Blade without the Hunter’s Chain Sickle? Technically yes — the boss drops it regardless. But the blade has no other use, so beat The Hunt first and bring the sickle.

How hard is the Puppet Scavenger compared to other bosses? Community verdict: mechanically simpler than the Maskwalkers, but the Hansui phase punishes greed. Treat it as two short fights back to back rather than one long one.

Is there anything else in the Crimson Manor worth grabbing? The second-floor Memory Flower and the library lore fragments. If you are tracking region completion, the flower only becomes reachable once the manor is open.
