Phantom Blade Zero Remnant Dust Farming: Best Routes
Remnant Dust farming in Phantom Blade Zero: enemies do not respawn, so these are the best pickup routes, biggest payouts, and smartest spending priorities per run.

What should you spend Remnant Dust on first?

Remnant Dust is Phantom Blade Zero’s single currency — it pays for weapon levels, ability training, medicine upgrades, accessory slots, and Soul Tempering. But before you plan a farming route, you need to know the rule that breaks every Soulslike habit: defeated enemies never respawn. Director Soulframe Liang confirmed it in pre-launch interviews, and it holds in the release build. Dust is finite per playthrough, so “farming” here means sweeping efficiently and spending wisely — not grinding the same mob.
How Remnant Dust Is Earned
Four sources, all finite per run:
- Enemy kills. Each kill pays a fixed amount — a tougher thug in Chapter 1 pays +340, for example. Crucially, enemies that die near you count even without your final blow: in the Jagged Steel arena, the boss cutting down two masked enemies credited the player +1,114 for free.
- White smoke swirls. Ground pickups with an interact prompt, worth roughly +900 each in the early game.
- Rubbish heaps, scrolls, and chests. The biggest single payouts in the game — up to +2,048 verified — hidden in pits, storerooms, and cellars.
- New Game Plus cycles. Because the world resets each Cycle, every Dust source refreshes — this is the only true re-farming loop, and it is covered in our New Game Plus guide.
The Treasure Basin accessory (a pre-order bonus) adds +10% to all Dust earned — equip it for any sweep.
Best Early Route: Crimson Forest Sweep
Crimson Forest holds the densest early Dust. A full sweep takes about 15 minutes once you know the spots:
| Location | Payout |
|---|---|
| Sick Dog pit below the Outlaw Trap bell | +1,857 |
| Storeroom at the ladder foot near the second Butcher’s yard | +1,838 |
| Cellar under the Cliffside Lodge storehouse (needs the Cellar Crank) | +1,850 |
| Wooden storehouse plank floor | +911 |
| Plank road plateau, beside the clay jars | +917 |
| Roadside heap ~38m southeast of the Red Serpent House bell | +916 |
| Forest Outpost plank deck, by the lantern-lit doorway | +903 |
| Stake pit below the Cliff of Longing campfire | +902 |
| Slope heap among the red shrubs above the stake pit | +928 |
| Scroll on the Thieves’ Camp storage tent shelf | +455 |
That is roughly 11,500 Dust from pickups alone, plus kill payouts along the route. One warning: the heap about 10 metres from the Red Serpent House bell contains Ancient Timber, not Dust — skip it unless you need the material.
Village of Lu Pickups
The second region pays less per spot but stacks up fast:
- Smuggler’s Tunnel doll room — a glint among the hanging puppets pays +2,048, the largest single pickup verified so far. The office next door has three books worth Dust, one paying +1,048.
- Smuggler’s Tunnel entrance cave — a chest beside a small shrine pays +1,053 plus 9 Mechanical Gear.
- Master Bi Yuan’s arena — a glimmer by the shrine-statue pays +1,060; defeat him first, he attacks on entry.
- Fallen tree by the broken cart — between the Well of the Three Puppets and Temple of Blue Fireflies bells, +516.
Later regions follow the same pattern — heaps and swirls near Bells, plus chests behind side-content gates — but per-spot values past Village of Lu are still being catalogued. The discipline transfers: sweep every Bell’s surroundings before moving on, because nothing you leave behind is coming back.
Kill Efficiency and Spending Priorities
Because nothing respawns, kill value is about not missing deaths that would happen anyway: let summoned adds and arena bystanders die near you, and never leave a region with live stragglers you have already cleared around — their Dust is gone for the run once you move on.
On the spending side, the priorities most players converge on:
- Weapon levels at any Bell. The first upgrade costs roughly 640-1,170 Remnant Dust; levels scale up toward the cap of 30. The Revert feature refunds 100% of Dust and materials, so early investments are never locked in.
- Soul Tempering build weapons. Tempered abilities are mechanics, not numbers — see the Soul Tempering guide for why a tempered mid-tier blade beats an untempered top-tier one.
- Boundless Capacity. Four extra accessory slots cost 10,000 / 40,000 / 65,000 / 80,000 Dust — expensive, but permanent power.
- Ability Training. Costs like Flowing Chi at 10,000 Dust are worth banking for; the respec option refunds everything if your build changes.
- Quick Hand Zhang’s shop. He stocks upgrade materials, Reforge Talismans, and two damage accessories — locations and prices are in the Quick Hand Zhang treasures guide.
New players should pair this with the beginner guide — several Dust spots sit on routes that guide already walks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an infinite Remnant Dust glitch or exploit? None verified at launch. The Revert refund is a reallocation tool, not a duplication method — it returns exactly what you spent.
Does difficulty change Remnant Dust payouts? No source documents Dust scaling with difficulty. Wayfarer and Hellwalker pay the same for the same kill; pick your mode based on the difficulty settings trade-offs instead.
How much Remnant Dust do you need total? There is no published total, but the big sinks alone — Boundless Capacity (195,000), maxing a remedy (~37,800), and Zhang’s pricier stock — mean thorough sweepers finish a run tens of thousands of Dust ahead of skippers.
