FAQ

Where do you fight Bai Chilian in Phantom Blade Zero?
At the Threadbound Great Tree in the Mirrorwood Depths, on the eastern side of the Crimson Forest. Ring the Mirrorwood Depths bell, then solve the weeping-portal puzzle — pass through whichever portal the weeping sounds loudest from — to clear the mist and open her arena.
What trophy do you get for beating Bai Chilian?
The Shattered Mirror, a silver PlayStation trophy awarded for defeating Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents. It is story-related and unmissable on a full playthrough.
What does Bai Chilian drop?
The White Serpent & Crimson Viper dual-blade weapon set — spinning blade attacks and ranged executions — plus the Resonance Talisman, an accessory that increases your Sha-Chi by 15%.
If I die in Bai Chilian's second phase, do I restart the fight?
No. Phantom Blade Zero respawns you at the start of the phase you died in, so a phase-two death sends you back to the phase-two opener, not to the full fight.

Who Is Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents?

Bai Chilian is the finale of the Crimson Forest and the source of the mysterious weeping that follows you through the entire region. Game8 files her under the Snake’s Reflection chapter as a Maskwalkers-type main boss, and her Archives entry sets the tone: “A woman who fights with a pair of strange serpent swords. Her strikes are vicious and uncanny; her beauty is enough to make one forget the danger. Those who draw near seldom meet a kind end.” She is a two-phase teleport duelist — the region’s answer to players who cruised through Hua Qianxiao on aggression alone.

This guide covers the route in, the portal puzzle, both phases, and the reward pair: the White Serpent & Crimson Viper blades and the Resonance Talisman. For the full roster, see our all bosses list.

Getting There: Mirrorwood Depths and the Weeping Portals

The fight sits deep in the Crimson Forest’s eastern half, past the Forest Outpost and the Stone Hand Iron Fever brawl. Method’s walkthrough lays out the final stretch: ring the Mirrorwood Depths bell, and you enter a misty clearing full of portals that seem to lead nowhere. A carving on a tree holds the solution: follow the weeping. Literally — stand at each portal, listen, and take the one where the weeping is loudest. Repeat a few times and the mist clears, opening the true path. Grab the area’s Memory Flowers on the way, then save at the Threadbound Great Tree bell — the arena is immediately beyond.

For loadout, both Game8 and Method recommend the Outlaw Warblade: its charge attacks carry stagger resistance, which matters enormously against a boss whose whole plan is interrupting you mid-swing.

Phase 1: The Vanishing Duelist

Bai Chilian’s first phase is a counter-punching exam built around her disappear-and-reappear rhythm:

  • Two slashes, then she vanishes. This is your window, not hers: charge the Outlaw Warblade while she’s gone and release as she reappears for two free hits. She cannot interrupt your charge thanks to its stagger resistance. Sidestep, recharge, repeat.
  • Barrel-roll dagger volley. When she rolls sideways through the air, hold block through the dagger volley, expect her to teleport behind you for two blockable hits — then counterattack immediately. Game8 flags this as her longest punish window in the phase.
  • The Sha-Chi drain ambush. Her nastiest trick: after a long vanish she reappears behind you with a surprise Sha-Chi-draining attack. Dodge the instant she closes in, then brace for a 3-hit combo ending in a lethal, dodgeable sword thrust. Losing your Sha-Chi mid-fight is how her strings snowball — treat this one move as the phase’s true boss.

Everything else in phase one is blockable. Play defense, punish the pauses, and bank your damage on the two scripted openings above.

Phase 2: Serpents Unbound

Down goes her first bar and Bai Chilian takes to the air on her strings. Two mercies up front, per Maxroll’s walkthrough: dying in phase two does not reset phase one — you respawn at the phase transition.

  • The opener. She begins with five hyper-aggressive swings feeding a 5-hit serpent follow-up and a parryable lunge. Block the string, parry the lunge — a successful parry massively staggers her, and the ground game is where she takes real damage.
  • String-hanging phase. For most of the phase she hangs in the air on her threads, and you can only land proper hits when she’s staggered and grounded. Method’s advice: stay close so you can punish the instant she drops.
  • The spinning launch. When she recovers by launching upward while spinning, five spin attacks and a red-glint plunge from high above follow. Block the spins, dodge the plunge on the red flash — and drop camera lock while she’s airborne, because the glints are hard to read at that angle.
  • Serpent AOE. If she spawns giant serpents from the ground inside a wind vortex, disengage and cut down each serpent individually — clearing them stops the AOE and reopens the fight.

Rewards: White Serpent & Crimson Viper, Resonance Talisman, The Shattered Mirror

The payout is one of the best in the mid-game:

  • White Serpent & Crimson Viper — her own paired blades as a playable dual set, with spinning blade attacks around you and ranged executions, plus a minimum-damage step up over Sanguine Twin. It slots straight into best weapons discussions for the chapter ahead.
  • Resonance Talisman — an accessory that increases your Sha-Chi by 15% (Method), a direct answer to the drain-heavy fights coming next. Pair it with the fundamentals in our combat system guide.
  • The Shattered Mirror — the silver trophy for the kill (playstationtrophies.org), story-related and unmissable.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Swinging while she’s vanished. You can’t hit what isn’t there. Charge instead — the Warblade turns her disappearance into your DPS window.
  • Ignoring the drain ambush. If your Sha-Chi bar empties mid-string, you’re a training dummy. Dodge first, always.
  • Chasing her into the air in phase two. She takes chip damage at best while hanging. Hold your ground, parry the lunge, and punish the staggers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bai Chilian a required boss? Yes — she closes the Snake’s Reflection chapter, and The Shattered Mirror is a story trophy.

What’s the best weapon for the fight? The Outlaw Warblade, per both Game8 and Method — stagger-resistant charged attacks that punish her vanish cycles. Sanguine Twin (or its upgrade, her own drop) works for fast punish strings after staggers.

How do I stop the phase-two vortex AOE? Kill the giant serpents it spawns, one by one. The vortex collapses once they’re down.
