FAQ

What is the boss order in Weeping Creek Valley?
Maskwalker Jagged Steel, then Peng Meng the Axemaster, then two fights with the Hunt (the second drops the Hunter's Chain Sickle), plus the optional Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet at The Lady's Rift whenever you are ready.
How do I open the gate at the Sha-Chi Tower base camp?
Start the Deep in the Valley purple quest, then recover the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key from the tower's topmost ledge using the Hunter's Chain Sickle. The full key route is in the Deep in the Valley walkthrough.
Where is the Long Pillar in Weeping Creek Valley?
Past the opened base camp gate, in the lower valley section. The Lóng Pillar Overlook bell serves it; the Gold-Masked One waits at the top as the first of five Long Pillar trials.
Which side quests start in Weeping Creek Valley?
Whence the Weeping, Flesh Lily, Deep in the Valley, A Severed Mindseal, and the Triple Threat chain (at The Lady's Rift). Purple icons mark the ones that feed the true ending.

Soul overlooking Weeping Creek Valley, Phantom Blade Zero’s first open region

Weeping Creek Valley is where Soul’s hunt begins after the prologue’s high-speed fall — the game’s first proper region and its tutorial in open-world terms: four main-quest bosses, one hidden rift fight, the campaign’s first Long Pillar, and a purple-quest web that seeds side stories paying off three regions later. This walkthrough is the navigation hub: chapter route, boss order, the tower key chain, and where each side quest entry point sits. For the region’s full boss roster see the all bosses list; for every key and crank across the game, see the all keys index.

Chapters and the Main Route

The valley covers three story chapters:

  • Reckless Pursuit. A linear chase downstream — follow the markers, learn bells (fast travel plus healing), and meet Inanis beside the first one. Grab Lingran’s Pendant from the chest at the valley entrance: it cuts Sha-Chi combo costs by 15% and stays useful for dozens of hours.
  • Against the Flow. The Outpost teaches weapon upgrading through Forge, then the path forks at a stairway split. Right leads to loot and the Cell Key for a Blackstone Fragment; left triggers a scene straight into the Jagged Steel fight. Past him, the Crane Bell flashes back 23 years to Soul and Zuo Shang’s childhood, and the chapter closes at the settlement beyond.
  • Steel and Steam. The Hunt’s massacre site holds the Axemaster’s Holding Cell bell and collectibles, then the disciple by the Creek Valley Plains Entrance bell starts Deep in the Valley — the quest that opens the valley’s lower half.

Boss Progress Line

  1. Maskwalker Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute — the first real skill check, guarding the river path. Drops the Jagged Steel bleed sword and teaches parry-versus-Ghoststep discipline. Guide: Jagged Steel.
  2. Peng Meng, the Axemaster — the first black-flash boss and the game’s guard-break lesson. Drops the Dread Axe Phantom Edge, whose field ability breaks iron chain barriers — including the one sealing the path past his arena. Guide: Peng Meng.
  3. The Hunt (two encounters) — the first is a scripted chase loss; the second, at the region’s far end, is the real duel. Victory awards the Hunter’s Chain Sickle, the traversal Phantom Edge that retroactively opens half the valley’s grapple points. Guide: The Hunt.
  4. Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet (optional) — inside the Sha-Chi rift beside The Lady’s Rift bell, west of The Beginning. Statue interaction opens it; win or lose, you exit with the Three-Headed Doll and the start of the Triple Threat quest. This is also one of the game’s twelve hidden fights — the full curation lives on the secret bosses page.

The Tower Key Chain: Long Pillar Overlook and Below

The valley’s biggest gate is physical. After the Hunt duel, the disciple’s plea starts Deep in the Valley: he dropped the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key inside the Steel Tower while fleeing. You cannot reach it yet — the key sits on the tower’s topmost ledge, and only the Hunter’s Chain Sickle grapples that high. Once claimed, the key opens the camp gate at the tower’s base, which unlocks everything below:

  • The lower valley section — healer herbs, the tower furnace, and Blackstone Fragments 3 and 4 (per IGN’s valley collectible map).
  • The Lóng Pillar Overlook bell and the region’s first Long Pillar, where the Gold-Masked One waits as trial one of five for Bloodline Awakening. Full trial coverage: Gold-Masked One.
  • The Crimson Manor lift — a Powderkeg-crackable wall at the tower’s base hides the elevator down to the manor door, the late-game dungeon covered in the Crimson Manor walkthrough.

Step-by-step key recovery: Deep in the Valley walkthrough. Do not confuse this key with the Mandate Encampment Outer Gate Key from Pangzhen — two similarly named keys, two different gates.

Side Quest Entries and Deadlines

  • Whence the Weeping — unmissable; triggered by the crying woman near the valley’s first stream. Purple icon: true ending material.
  • Flesh Lily — Yu’er’s healer quest for her father. Needs Peng Meng dead, then the Twin Flesh Lilies guarded by Hua, Deadly Betrothed under the tower. Guide: Flesh Lily.
  • Deep in the Valley — the tower key chain above. Purple icon.
  • A Severed Mindseal — talk to the friendly Shadow Warden by the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Summit bell. Fail trigger: leaving the valley before handing in the first Primal Stone; pull it from the tower furnace with the Furnace Inspection Crank first. Listed in the missable side quests guide.
  • Triple Threat — starts at The Lady’s Rift statue and runs to the Mirrorwood after Mirage Estate. Guide: Triple Threat.

Collectibles Worth the Detour

The valley holds four Blackstone Fragments (four collected grant +10% attack and guard break permanently) and its Sha-Chi Amber set. Early standouts: Lingran’s Pendant at the entrance, the Cell Key room by the Outpost, and the Rusted Loong Key at the Lóng Pillar Overlook — four meters from the bell, purpose revealed much later. Region-specific key placements are catalogued in the all keys index; collectible counts per region are tracked in the remnant dust farming guide.

Leaving the Valley

Steel and Steam ends at the cave exit overlooking the Crimson Forest. Nothing in Weeping Creek Valley becomes permanently missable at this point — the only true cutoff in the game is the Mirage Estate point of no return — but A Severed Mindseal’s hand-in and the Cell Key backtrack are far easier now than after two more regions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I fight the Lady’s Rift puppet immediately? Yes — interact and try. The quest registers even in defeat, and the Three-Headed Doll is yours either way. Return after the Hunt for a fairer rematch.

Where do I go after the Hunt? Through the eastern exit into the Crimson Forest. If any purple valley quest is open, finish it first — the Crimson Forest walkthrough picks up from the cave mouth.

Is the valley’s Long Pillar required for the true ending? It is one of the five Bloodline Awakening trials, so yes — but it stays available until the Mirage Estate cutoff, so there is no rush.
