FAQ

Where is Hua, Deadly Betrothed in Phantom Blade Zero?
In the Flesh Lily Fields cavern beneath the Valley Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. From the tower's 1st Floor bell, circle behind the tower, drop through the opening in the ground, and slide down the wooden bridge.
What does Hua, Deadly Betrothed drop?
The Scarlet Wraithblade two-handed main weapon. Twin Flesh Lilies then bloom at the wedding altar for Yu'er's Flesh Lily tale — she keeps one and lends you the other.
Is Hua, Deadly Betrothed the same as Hua Qianxiao?
No. Hua Qianxiao, the Sword Fanatic is a required Crimson Forest boss fought on the Pangzhen Bridge. Hua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional puppet bride in Weeping Creek Valley. The PS5 trophy even calls her 'Hua, the Bride.' Same family name, different character.
Is the Hua, Deadly Betrothed fight missable?
The boss herself stays available, but her quest tie-in is missable: the Twin Flesh Lilies hand-in must be completed before you advance to the Village of Lu — community guides phrase the cutoff as before defeating Bai Chilian — or the lilies vanish and the Flesh Lily tale fails.

Hua, Deadly Betrothed, the veiled bride of the Flesh Lily Fields beneath the Valley Sha-Chi Tower

Name check: this is not Hua Qianxiao, the Sword Fanatic, the required Crimson Forest boss on the Pangzhen Bridge. Hua, Deadly Betrothed is a different character — an optional puppet bride hidden under Weeping Creek Valley’s first Sha-Chi Tower. The PS5 bronze trophy for beating her is even worded “Defeat Hua, the Bride.” Same family name, different person.

Who Is Hua, Deadly Betrothed?

Hua, Deadly Betrothed is Weeping Creek Valley’s hidden bride: an optional puppet boss who waits at a red-draped wedding altar in the Flesh Lily Fields, a flower-choked cavern directly below the region’s first Sha-Chi Tower. Rock Paper Shotgun’s full boss list places her at number 6 of 61 in story order, with the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor as her nearest bell, and logs her rewards as the Scarlet Wraithblade and Twin Flesh Lilies. Game8 files her among the optional bosses, and the fight carries one name bar from start to finish — she has no phase two, only momentum.

Her tragedy is the point. Per PlayStation Blog’s launch coverage, once you defeat her you learn how she was used by the man she was to marry — and how her rage at that betrayal resulted in the massacre of the entire wedding party. The spider lilies she summons in battle are that rage made mechanical: they sap your strength, stagger you, and leave you open to massive blows from her huge sword.

How to Reach Her: The Tower-Base Slide

The arena hides in plain sight behind the tower you walk past on the main quest:

  1. Push the story until the Steel and Steam quest brings you to the Valley Sha-Chi Tower, then rest at the 1st Floor bell — refill HP and gourd uses, because the slide down has no way back up mid-run.
  2. Instead of climbing, circle around the back of the tower until you find a hole in the ground with a long wooden bridge sloping down into it (Game8’s directions; Polygon’s walkthrough places the opening beside the giant furnace inside, at the back of the ground floor).
  3. Ride the slide down. There are enemies on the platform below — Game8 and community guides suggest clearing them, because you will retake this path every time she kills you.
  4. From the landing, take the path lined with red flowers and candles — Polygon turns left from the platform; NintendoSmash approaches from the tower’s back-right side — and climb into a clearing of lilies under purple light.
  5. A cutscene plays: a bride at a red-draped wedding altar. The fight begins immediately.

One structural warning: the Flesh Lily Fields bell inside the arena stays unusable until she is dead. There is no ringing it and leaving; the arena is a commitment.

Hua’s Attacks and Counters

She fights with a single long sword and blink-step movement, staying at range until she suddenly is not:

  • White lily projectiles — she fires pale flowers from afar. Polygon’s warning: these are the dangerous ones — a hit paralyzes you. Block or parry them if your timing is sharp, but treat every white petal as a stagger sentence.
  • Red exploding blossoms — her attacks and movement seed red lilies on the ground that burst after a beat. Dodge out of them rather than blocking; the Game8-based strategy record adds two habits worth stealing — disable lock-on to escape the spinning backstep blooms cleanly, and never heal while flowers are airborne.
  • The grab — she ends combos with a red-flash grab. Red means dodge, per the game’s universal language; getting caught sets up her heaviest follow-up.
  • Blink pressure — she teleports toward or away from you constantly. Do not chase; let her come to you and answer the string.

Game8’s recommended plan is defensive: fight patiently, deplete her Sha-Chi before committing to aggression, and lean on the Dread Axe Phantom Edge — a charged Dread Axe hit knocks her down for a free follow-up. One matchup note from AllThingsHow’s boss list: bleed does not work on puppets, and Hua is a Puppet, so leave the Jagged Steel at home.

Rewards: Scarlet Wraithblade and Twin Flesh Lilies

Do not leave when the weapon card pops. Her kill pays three ways:

  • Scarlet Wraithblade — a two-handed main weapon that turns her trick against the Wulin: completing combos summons spider lilies on the ground that slow enemies and let you control the battlefield, per PlayStation Blog. Full stats and arts live on our Scarlet Wraithblade page.
  • Twin Flesh Lilies — the pair blooms from the corpse at the base of the wedding altar after the fight. Ring the now-unlocked Flesh Lily Fields bell, return to Yu’er at the Weeping Creek Valley Outpost, and hand one over to advance her tale. She insists you keep the second, which matters later. The full chain — including the Pangzhen finale — is walked step by step on our Flesh Lily quest page.
  • The deadline — this is the missable part. The find-and-deliver stage must be finished before you advance to the Village of Lu; community guides phrase the cutoff as before defeating Bai Chilian, Lady of the Twin Serpents. Miss it and the lilies vanish from the fields. See our missable side quests guide before you leave the valley.
