Who Is the Blizzard Blademaster?
The Blizzard Blademaster is the white-clad swordsman standing at the end of the Phantom Illusionist Ruins, amid wind and snow, a divine weapon in hand. His Gallery of the Archives entry (type: Masters) tells a cold story: half his face is already ruined, cast into shadow by the High Elder’s sinister plot, and his every strike carries formidable force — the long blade tears through air and leaves frost in its wake. After years in the northern Wulin he had rarely met an equal. He lived by his own code of vengeance, wielding Whiteshadow to cut down countless evil and heterodox foes, until his son’s death began torturing his heart without end. He is not guarding treasure. He is waiting for someone capable of slaying monsters in his stead.
The numbers back up the reputation: a Level 23 encounter with 186,240 HP and a Sha-Chi pool of 17,456 on Wayfarer, doubling to 34,912 on Pathbreaker, Hellwalker, and 66 Days.
The Unlock Route: Four Masks, One Mirror
You cannot simply walk to this fight. GameSpot’s true ending guide lays out the chain: four Acolyte Masks — one from each hidden acolyte, including Hansui’s Frost Mask from the Crimson Manor duo — are used to shatter the Four Guardians’ Mirror, a mystical site in the frozen lands of northwestern Meigu Lake. Submit the masks, the mirror breaks, and the Discordance realm pulls you into the Phantom Illusionist Ruins. Our Acolyte masks guide tracks every bearer. PCGamesN’s advice: leave the four acolytes for later, gear up, then take them back-to-back before heading to the frozen lake.
One approach warning: the boss cutscene can trigger as you near the wreck at Whiteshadow’s Fall, before you reach the bell. Ring the Whiteshadow’s Fall bell first — it hangs on a post on the wreck’s deck — or a death sends you back much further than you expect.
The Frozen Gauge: The One Rule of This Fight
Everything the Blademaster does serves one mechanic: his frost attacks build a Frozen gauge on Soul, and when it fills, you are frozen in place. Community footage and video guides are unanimous about what happens next — a frozen Soul is executed. Treat the freeze not as a debuff but as a death sentence, and budget your dodges around it: never trade hits, never greed a combo finish, and disengage the moment your gauge is high. (Precise execution damage values are still being community mapped; the practical rule is simply do not get frozen.) He narrates the whole duel, and his most honest line is the one to respect: “Watch closely. I’ll strike only once!”
Moveset and Survival Tips
He is fast, precise, and most of his strings end in a flash. The community-tested counter-package:
- Bring Green Serpent Brew and elemental-resistance accessories. Frost mitigation directly slows the gauge that kills you.
- Dodge whenever a red flash appears — his unblockable follow-ups, including the second hit after a charge-up, are exactly where perfect-dodge windows live.
- Punish only after his big charged multi-hit combos. Those are the recovery windows; everything shorter will clip you mid-swing.
- Carry Longevity Tonic and rest at the bell before every attempt. This is a long fight, and his opening attack can take a chunk before you have settled in — dodge it at the last second rather than early.
Rewards: Whiteshadow and The White Shadow
Victory pays out the blade he carried. Whiteshadow is a two-handed Frost main weapon with 308 damage and 144 status: its base art, Frozen, chills enemies and builds their Frozen Gauge on every hit — even through blocks, once tempered with its Deepening Frost art. Its Power Surge, White Shadow’s Frosthowl, guarantees Frozen on every enemy struck when the flurry ends, and Frost Strike plus three ranks of Piercing Cold stack gauge speed for a full freeze-build. The full kit is broken down in our Whiteshadow weapon guide. The fight also pops The White Shadow, a hidden silver trophy for defeating him. Remnant Dust totals attached to the kill are listed inconsistently between community databases and player reports, so treat any single figure as provisional.
After the Fight: Puppet No. 99 and the Heart of the Lake
Beating him is a door, not a conclusion. An ominous puppet statue appears where he fell: insert both Crystal Puppet Eyes — Yin and Yang — and you are transported to the Heart of the Lake. Kill the cultists to stop the ritual, and the chain ends in an encounter with Inanis, completing Secrets at the Heart of the Lake and unlocking the secret — true — ending of the game. That is how you know the duel was truly over.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fight the Blizzard Blademaster without all four masks?
No. The Four Guardians’ Mirror requires the full mask set to shatter. The fight itself has no mask requirement, but reaching it does.
Does the Blizzard Blademaster appear in 66 Days mode?
Yes — he was shown as a 66 Days encounter in official footage, and every defeat there costs one day off your counter. Only attempt him there when your build is finished.
Is Whiteshadow worth building around?
Yes. It is one of the strongest two-handed weapons in the launch meta: guaranteed Freeze off Frosthowl turns every elite encounter into an execution pipeline.
