Who Is Blaze?
Blaze is a Perfect Transcension boss fought during the Town of Death chapter in Pangzhen, and one of the region’s toughest encounters because he is two fights wearing one health bar. His first form, Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain, wields the Fire Meteor — twin meteor hammers on chains with punishing range. Halfway through, a cutscene refashions him into Blaze, Phosphor Consciousness: faster, crueler, and armed with phosphor blasts, poison, and falling projectiles. Both names are confirmed in-game and across fextralife, Sportskeeda, and Game8’s boss list — the double name bar is not a translation quirk.
Blaze anchors Pangzhen’s boss ladder (Cavalrybane and Wu Xuan wait further in), and his fight doubles as the game’s exam on status pressure: burn, poison, and the discipline of not healing at mid-range. The full encounter order is on the all bosses page.
Where to Find Him
Rest at the South Gate Bridge bell, then head up the stairs into Pangzhen’s central district — the Town of Death. A cutscene plays on arrival in which an NPC dies, and once it ends the path runs straight to Blaze’s arena. Expect the first swing almost immediately: Blaze opens the fight with his Fire Meteor already spinning, so learning the block timing on those first swings matters from literally the first second.
Phase 1: Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain
The Captain’s kit is built around reach. Fextralife warns that keeping your distance is the dangerous option — the hammers cover the area around and in front of him, so staying close to his sides is the safest posture in the fight, odd as that feels against a fire boss.
| Attack | Tell | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Meteor Swing | Spins the hammers, then swings one at you | Dodge forward through the wind-up to reach his side, then retaliate |
| Hammer Throw | Spins, then flings both hammers twice in a line | Block the first throw, parry the second to drain his Sha-Chi |
| Spinning Hammer | Advances while the hammer spins out | Back off; multiple hits if it clips you |
| Blazing Slam | Red flash, heavy overhead | Do not block — dodge, then punish the recovery |
| Entangle | Meteor hammers glow green | Dodge sideways or back, or he chains you into a choke |
| Sideways whirlwind | Spiral chain spin ending in a leaping burning orb | Hold block for the chain hits, dodge as he leaps |
Two set pieces define the phase. When Blaze summons two warriors, focus one down until an instant-kill prompt appears — the cinematic finisher kills both adds at once. If his health is low, skip the minions and push into phase two. And when he spirals into the whirlwind-into-leap sequence, block the chains and dodge the leap to trigger a cinematic stagger — one of the biggest free damage windows in the fight.
Phase 2: Blaze, Phosphor Consciousness
The cutscene between phases is not a breather so much as a warning. Phosphor Consciousness moves much faster, and his new kit is where runs go to die:
- Phosphor blast — he lowers his head and fires a straight-line beam. Dodge backward or sideways, then punish; the recovery is generous.
- Falling circles — circles and projectiles drop from the sky. Sportskeeda’s advice is absolute: get completely out of the marked zones, or you are dead. Do not dodge at the last moment inside a circle.
- The chain grab — if the chains catch you while he’s charging, he pins you across his lap and spits phosphor flame at your head, a burn execution that effectively ends the run. The green-glow rule from phase one still applies; respect it harder.
- Burn and poison — both statuses now ride on his hits. Bring cleansing items you can pop quickly; lingering burn ticks turn small mistakes into death spirals.
The rhythm flips between defense and aggression: play defensively whenever the hammers come out, then turn aggressive during his phosphor attacks, which leave him exposed. Note the game respawns multi-phase bosses at the start of the phase you died in, so phase one only ever has to be fought once. Phase-two pressure pairs naturally with the tools from the combat system guide.
Loadout and the Pangzhen Context
Sportskeeda’s recommended kit leans on the White Serpent & Crimson Viper pairing, the Outlaw Warblade, and Phantom Edge bursts from the Iron Gauntlets and Dread Axe, with Simmering Brew, Healing Gourd, Arrowward, Jewel’s Knot, and Mother’s Talisman for consumables and accessories. The Iron Gauntlets come from Stone Hand Iron Fever back in Crimson Forest — if you skipped him, this fight is where that detour pays off. Rewards: The Fire Meteor
Beating Blaze awards the Fire Meteor — his own meteor hammers as a Phantom Edge, so the reach that tormented you becomes yours. Game8’s boss list additionally logs a Crimson Fresh Lily among the drops. The fight closes with a dedicated finisher: once his health bottoms out in phase two, a prompt appears — mash the button to trigger the killing cinematic. Players have noted it lands with unusual weight, fitting the story beat: Blaze is the first Perfect Transcension barring Soul’s way at the South Gate, and the game wants you to feel the door open. Add the Fire Meteor via the all Phantom Edges guide; if the falling circles are tuning you up, Wayfarer widens the dodge windows without touching his health pool — see the difficulty settings guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Blaze two bosses or one? One boss with two named phases: Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain, then Blaze, Phosphor Consciousness after a mid-fight cutscene. Dying in phase two restarts you at phase two.
Can I block the meteor hammers? Parts of the kit, yes — block the first Hammer Throw and parry the second. But the red-flash Blazing Slam, the green-glow Entangle, and both phase-two grabs must be dodged; blocking those either fails outright or ends in a choke.
Why do I keep dying in phase two? Usually one of two things: standing inside the falling-circle zones, or getting caught by the charging chain grab into the phosphor execution. Both are solved by moving early and sideways rather than reacting late.
