Not the tutorial fight. This page covers Zuo Shang, the True Lóng, the true-ending final boss. If you are looking for the prologue sparring duels in Diverging Paths, see the Zuo Shang boss guide — same sworn brother, twenty-six chapters earlier.
The Golden Dragon Behind the Final Battle
Phantom Blade Zero opens with Zuo Shang and closes with him. Three of the four endings end at Meng Hua; only the Final Battle route goes further, and the True Lóng is its fourth and last wall. PCGamer’s endings guide puts the sequence plainly: on a completed run, the endgame climbs from the fifth Gold-Masked One duel through Meng Hua and the Order’s Shadow Sovereign to one final name bar — Zuo Shang, the True Lóng — that the other two real endings never show. Steam’s own data tells you how rare the sight is: With Heart and Blood, the achievement this fight unlocks, sits at roughly 0.1% of players, the lowest figure the storefront displays.
His motive, confessed on the pavilion steps: neither the Herald nor the Lady could have succeeded. Zuo Shang took the Order, forced Soul’s hand against Shifu, and chose the Hollow Heart so the Blight could be tamed into a power the world can wield. “This is our final battle!”
How to Reach The Fallen Dream
The portal only opens for a finished checklist — every purple Tale, all five Long Pillars, the Acolyte Masks, the Crystal Puppet Eyes, Quick Hand Zhang’s relics — before The Last Chance bell, as detailed in our true ending guide. With all of it done, per AllThingsHow’s capture:
- After Meng Hua, take the snow road past the Soulrend Cliff bell to The Fallen Dream bell, about 100 metres on.
- Follow the road to the pillar of golden light, stand right inside it, and press E.
- A golden flash drops Soul into a rain-soaked lake ringed by bamboo, with a wooden pavilion at its center. Rest at the broken bell beside your arrival point — Phantom of The Old House — because a death returns you there and the long cutscene never replays.
- Approach the pavilion. After the scene, the first health bar appears: Zuo Shang, the Order’s Shadow Sovereign.
Phase 1: The Order’s Shadow Sovereign
This is the Zuo Shang of the opening duel, grown monstrous — a golden longsword and storm of flung steel. KeenGamer’s pattern notes:
- Finger snap — hold block through the incoming sword volley, then dodge the heavy follow-up and the flying giant mace.
- Flying sword — when he throws his sword skyward, parry the blade and then the lunge that chases it.
- Lunge and four kicks — dodge the four ranged strikes thrown from the air, then Ghoststep the heavy finisher and punish.
Chip his stagger bar between combos instead of trading; Phase one is a warm-up for what the lake becomes.
Phase 2: Zuo Shang, the True Lóng
At half health the world breaks. The pavilion shatters, debris hangs suspended, the lake drains of colour until only gold remains, and lines of a song scroll down the screen’s edge. The new name bar: Zuo Shang, the True Lóng — a golden-armoured figure with white hair, a dragon’s head rising from the water behind him. “Perish in the Lóng’s breath!”
The golden body is not a metaphor. The game’s archive describes the True Lóng as cast in pure gold, with a majestic Lóng head and tightly packed golden scales — a vessel through which the Radiant Heart shields Zuo Shang’s consciousness from the Blight’s backlash. He built it to command the all-devouring Blight itself, and he cannot understand why Soul would rather keep a human heart and sixty-six days. That grievance is the whole fight.
AllThingsHow’s attack log for the form:
- Dive — he drops from above, sword first; watch for him rising, since the burst comes from overhead.
- Light sweep and light beam — a cone of gold and a beam skimming the water’s surface; sidestep both, never backpedal.
- Dragon spirit — a dragon-shaped mass of gold blurs across the arena and whites out the screen as it passes.
- Crescent slash, golden ring, falling blades — an ascending crescent cut, a ring of gold expanding across the whole arena, and blades raining down around him.
- Blade lock — one dive can end with your weapons locked and a white E prompt between the blades. Answer it. In capture runs, an unanswered lock ended the attempt seconds later.
Rewards: Aureate, Broken Long Body, Legacy, and the Gold Trophy
The finishing sequence is a close-range sword clash with its own prompt, then the Final Battle ending rolls — Mu Tianmiao’s epilogue included. KeenGamer’s endings and boss-roster guides confirm the haul: the Aureate main weapon, the Broken Long Body Soul Tempering material, the Radiant Heart story item, the Legacy outfit, and PCGamer adds the Hunt, Kindred, and Blizzard outfits to the wardrobe unlock. Over it all hangs With Heart and Blood, the game’s only ending-tied Gold trophy — missable, per PowerPyx, if any requirement slips past The Last Chance. Afterwards, Inanis offers New Game+, weapons and Phantom Edges carried over.
Tips for the True Lóng
- Rest at Phantom of The Old House first. The duel is two long phases deep into the mount.
- Save Power Surge for the gold phase. The monochrome arena punishes hesitation; burn stagger when the ring attack ends.
- Never miss a blade lock. The E prompt is the fight’s single loudest win condition.
- Confirm the checklist before The Last Chance. A missing purple Tale cannot be recovered until the next cycle — and this boss only exists on a clean one.
