FAQ

How do you start Secrets of the Baishan Sect in Phantom Blade Zero?
After defeating Jing Ye, the Outlaw in the Crimson Forest, cross the rope bridge east of the Outlaw's Trap bell, before Thieves' Camp. Two sisters, Ju and Lanlan, are arguing on the bridge — speak with Lanlan to accept the Tale. You must accept it before defeating Bai Chilian or the quest disappears for good.
Where is Junior Sister Meng in Secrets of the Baishan Sect?
Trapped behind a locked door in the Cliffside Lodge basement. Collect the Crimson Forest Cellar Crank from the lodge's balcony area, then the Secret Chamber Crank from the plank between the cellar platforms, and use it on the chamber door to reach her.
What are the missable steps in Secrets of the Baishan Sect?
Two: accept the quest from Lanlan before defeating Bai Chilian in the Crimson Forest, and inspect Bi Taotao's body on the hill beyond Wu Lengshuang's arena before defeating Yubi at the Mandate Encampment Training Grounds. Fail either check and The Last of Baishan trophy is locked out.
What is the reward for Secrets of the Baishan Sect?
The Last of Baishan bronze trophy. The questline's boss fights also pay out their own drops: Wu Lengshuang yields the Soft Snake Sword, and Yubi yields the Baishan Stormswords, the sacred-treasure dual blades of the sect the tale is named for.

The Tale That Decides a Trophy

Secrets of the Baishan Sect (Tale #10 on the All Tales index) is the questline behind the bronze trophy The Last of Baishan. It is also one of the game’s true missables: the window to even accept it closes the moment you beat Bai Chilian in the Crimson Forest, and a second, quieter check later on can still stall the chain if you rush the Mandate Encampment. Two phases, two missable windows, one trophy — here is the complete route.

The Baishan Sect’s last disciples at the Crimson Forest bridge outside Thieves’ Camp

Phase One: The Crimson Forest Rescue

The Tale opens shortly after you defeat Jing Ye, the Outlaw, the Crimson Forest chapter boss. From the Outlaw’s Trap Bell, head east across the rope bridge that leads toward Thieves’ Camp. On it you will find two sisters — Ju and Lanlan — arguing about their junior sister Meng, who is trapped somewhere beneath the mountain lodge. Speak with Lanlan to accept the quest.

Missable window #1: accept the quest now, before defeating Bai Chilian. Multiple launch guides confirm the pattern: you may complete the later objectives at your own pace, but if you never accepted the Tale before the Bai Chilian fight, the opportunity is gone for the rest of the playthrough. If you are trophy-hunting, treat the bridge conversation as mandatory the moment you cross it.

Finding the Two Cranks

Your objective is Cliffside Lodge, and you need two crank items to reach Meng:

  1. Crimson Forest Cellar Crank. Head through the archway to the left of the lodge into the backyard, tag the bell behind the building, and climb the ladder into the lodge’s upper section. KeenGamer’s table lists the crank on the Cliffside Lodge balcony; either route converges on the same item.
  2. Secret Chamber Crank. Use the cellar crank to open the lodge’s cellar and descend onto the wooden plank between the platforms. KeenGamer has you grab the Secret Chamber Crank from the plank route; GameRant’s walkthrough instead spots it on the elevated platform to the right, lying beside a body in an open cell. Explore both levels of the cellar — the crank is on the lower wooden walkways — and the chamber door mechanism will accept it.

Open the hidden chamber and speak with Junior Sister Meng, the severely wounded Baishan disciple behind the locked door. That completes the Crimson Forest phase. You can now finish the region normally, but the Tale itself stays open until the endgame — the second phase only unlocks once you reach the Mandate Encampment.

Phase Two: The Mandate Encampment

Much later, with the Encampment unlocked (see the Mandate Encampment walkthrough), travel to The Confinement Bell and challenge Wu Lengshuang, the Soft Sword — the optional parry-master duel fought in the course of this Tale. She is one of the game’s most technical fights: her purple-flash parry cancels your damage and branches into four counters, so patience beats aggression. Full move data is in the Wu Lengshuang boss guide, and her victory prize, the Soft Snake Sword (288 damage / 118 guard break at level 1 per IGN’s weapon table), is detailed on the Soft Snake Sword page.

The Body You Must Not Skip

After Wu Lengshuang falls, climb the stairs out of her arena and inspect Bi Taotao’s body lying among the flowers. This is missable window #2 and the step most players walk past: examine the body before defeating Yubi. KeenGamer flags both checks explicitly, and trophy guides list them among the pre-point-of-no-return requirements.

The Finale: Yubi at the Training Grounds

Continue to the Encampment’s Training Grounds and defeat Yubi, No. 21 Swordfighter Puppet — the chapter boss whose four-freed blade ballet anchors the Encampment finale. The Yubi boss guide covers the fight; its drop, the Baishan Stormswords (312 damage / 142 status effects at level 1), are the sacred-treasure dual blades the whole sect storyline circles back to, covered in the Baishan Stormswords guide.

With Yubi down and every earlier step complete, Secrets of the Baishan Sect closes and the The Last of Baishan trophy pops. If the trophy does not appear, the usual culprit is the Bi Taotao inspection — double back before leaving the region.

Missable Checklist

  • Accept the quest from Lanlan on the bridge before Thieves’ Camp — before defeating Bai Chilian.
  • Rescue Junior Sister Meng beneath Cliffside Lodge (Cellar Crank + Secret Chamber Crank).
  • Defeat Wu Lengshuang at The Confinement.
  • Inspect Bi Taotao’s body on the hill beyond — before defeating Yubi.
  • Defeat Yubi at the Training Grounds.

Rewards

  • The Last of Baishan — bronze trophy.
  • Soft Snake Sword — Wu Lengshuang’s drop.
  • Baishan Stormswords — Yubi’s drop; the sect’s sacred-treasure dual-wield.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Secrets of the Baishan Sect missable? Yes. Two checks can fail permanently: accepting the quest before Bai Chilian, and examining Bi Taotao’s body before Yubi. The full list of cutoffs lives in the missable side quests guide.

Can I finish phase two after beating the main story? The Mandate Encampment objectives stay available until the finale’s point of no return, so you can delay phase two — but both missable checks must be honored in order, and the game’s late warnings (the Mirage Estate cutoff and The Last Chance bell) still apply.

Who are Ju, Lanlan, and Meng? Surviving disciples of the Baishan Sect — the school whose sacred blades run through the whole game, from Bai Chilian’s twin-serpent style to the Baishan Stormswords themselves. This Tale is where the sect’s last generation gets its epilogue.
