Who Is Soulclaimer, Elite Shadow Warden?
Soulclaimer is the second of Pangzhen’s three Shadow Wardens and, at enemy level 18 with 60,000 Remnant Dust on the table, a clear step up from Cavalrybane across town. His dossier dresses him in solemn black robes much like his counterpart’s, with one difference: two female disciples of the Baishan Sect accompany him and act at his command — which is exactly what the fight does, adding bodies to an already technical duel. He wields the Parting Hooks, which “spin like rings” as he fights, and his technique is precise, disciplined, and built for turning defense into offense.
The lore is the same poison as every Warden’s. He spent half his life observing his sect’s rules, believing justice would prevail — until his loved ones and sworn friends were wrongfully imprisoned and executed. He concluded that the Mandate’s righteousness and order were empty words, cast his past aside, and devoted himself to the Shadow Sovereign’s order instead. Rules, in his eyes, are the very definition of fairness. Against Soul, even his careful calculations proved insufficient.
He also matters to completionists: he is entry two of three in the Three Wardens Fall bronze trophy. The trophy pops only after Heartpiercer — the third Warden, outside the White Serpent House — goes down, so check standing in our trophy guide rather than expecting a ding here.
Where to Find Soulclaimer
He guards the docks at the end of Pangzhen’s Chapter 4 arc:
- Fight through Pangzhen’s second half until you reach the Dockside Warehouse / Pangzhen Docks area, just before the boat that carries you out of town.
- His arena is the courtyard by the warehouse; the Pangzhen Docks bell sits roughly 40 meters away — rest there first.
- The two Baishan Sect disciples at his side join the opening of the fight, so plan for a short skirmish phase before the true duel settles in.
Soulclaimer’s Attacks and Counters
Where Cavalrybane was a slow polearm exam, Soulclaimer is a cadence test. Community guides agree on the essentials: nearly everything he does can be blocked, but his rhythm is deliberately deceptive.
- The weapon-cross counter — When Soulclaimer crosses his Parting Hooks to block you, do not keep swinging. He answers with an uninterruptible cinematic counter that will catch your string. Let him strike first, stay close, and weave in attacks only after his follow-through.
- Spinning blue-flash attack — His signature: a sideways spin with the hooks, followed by a blue-glint strike. It is parryable — but you do not have to wait. Interrupt him mid-spin with a weapon skill, then convert: the Baishan Stormswords’ follow-up AoE wind, for example, knocks him back and opens a punish window. This is the single highest-value read in the fight.
- Fast red-flash enders — His Killer Move animations (a swift limbo-like strike, a forward tumble leap) come out noticeably faster than Cavalrybane’s. When you see a combo winding down, pre-commit to a dodge rather than a block; red flashes ignore both blocks and parries, and only a well-timed evade triggers the Ghoststep punish.
- Sha-Chi draining leap — A leaping attack that drains your Sha-Chi on hit. Treat it like the red enders: dodge the landing, never eat it, because a drained meter leaves you unable to block his next string.
- Standard hook strings — Blockable mid-speed chains. Hold block, watch the tail of each string for a flash color, and answer accordingly. The blue/red flash rules are laid out in our combat system guide.
How to Beat Soulclaimer: Strategy
The defensive framing is the community consensus: most of Soulclaimer’s kit can be blocked, so hold guard, anticipate combo enders, and let him provide the openings. The trap is his counter stance — greed is punished harder here than at any earlier boss, because the weapon-cross answer is uninterruptible and cinematic. Discipline beats damage racing.
The decisive skill is the mid-spin interrupt. His spinning blue-flash attack looks like something to wait out and parry, but interrupting the spin itself denies him the entire sequence and frequently staggers him into a punish combo. Pair it with a weapon that has a strong skill follow-up — the Baishan Stormswords wind burst is the community’s worked example — and one phase of the fight becomes a solved loop: bait string, block, interrupt spin, punish, retreat before his counter stance. Manage the two Baishan disciples early with wide attacks or a Phantom Edge so the rest of the fight is one-on-one, and swap weapons to top up Sha-Chi before the leap attack can drain you empty.
Rewards: The Parting Hooks
Soulclaimer drops 60,000 Remnant Dust and the Parting Hooks, a dual-wield main weapon with 288 starting damage and 118 guard break — and, per its item card, “high shield-breaking power.” Its identity is counter-focused: the Guard Stance art Level Counter blocks incoming melee and answers with a counter that scales with the attack it absorbs (it cannot counter Black-Flash attacks), while Peerless Hook spends one Sha-Chi Essence on an unblockable strike. It is the weapon for players who would rather let the boss walk into a wall. Full stats and arts live on the Parting Hooks page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Soulclaimer boss in Phantom Blade Zero? In the courtyard near the Dockside Warehouse in Pangzhen, just before the boat out of town during Chapter 4, Town of Death. Rest at the Pangzhen Docks bell first — it is only about 40 meters from the arena.
What does Soulclaimer drop and are the Parting Hooks good? He drops the Parting Hooks dual-wield weapon and 60,000 Remnant Dust. The hooks’ Guard Stance auto-counters melee attacks, and with 288 base damage and high guard break they suit counter-heavy, defensive playstyles.
How do you beat Soulclaimer, Elite Shadow Warden’s spinning attack? Do not wait to parry it — interrupt the sideways spin mid-animation with a weapon skill (the Baishan Stormswords’ AoE wind works well), then punish the stagger. If you miss the window, the follow-up blue glint is parryable.
Why does Soulclaimer counter me when I attack? When he crosses his hooks in a block pose, an uninterruptible cinematic counter is coming. Stop attacking, let him commit, and punish the recovery instead of feeding into the counter.
