Overview
The Aureate is Phantom Blade Zero’s trophy weapon in the most literal sense: a longsword forged from pure gold, its blade smooth as silk, existing only on the game’s hardest-to-reach path. The in-game description says what it is for — “With it, one can imitate Zuo Shang’s unique Golden Sword Energy.” Every Living Sword you plant in an enemy is a piece of the true final boss’s own arsenal, turned against the world he tried to remake. Roughly 0.1 percent of players own the achievement attached to this weapon; if you are here, you are nearly done earning it.

How to Get the Aureate
The Aureate sits behind the entire true ending checklist: every purple-icon Tale, all five Long Pillar trials, the four Acolyte Masks, both Crystal Puppet Eyes, and Quick Hand Zhang’s requests, finished before passing The Last Chance bell. The Mount Soulrend walkthrough covers the region — The Crusher and the Saw, the Soulrend Cliff gauntlet, Leng Tu, Meng Hua. Then, only if the checklist was complete:
- After Meng Hua falls, take the snow road past the Soulrend Cliff bell to The Fallen Dream bell.
- Follow the road to the pillar of golden light, stand inside it, and press E.
- A golden flash drops Soul into a rain-soaked lake ringed by bamboo. Rest at the broken bell — deaths return you here.
- Approach the pavilion and win the two-phase duel: Zuo Shang, the Order’s Shadow Sovereign, then Zuo Shang, the True Lóng.
The full moveset breakdown of both phases lives in our Zuo Shang, the True Lóng boss guide. The reward screen is the most loaded in the game: the Aureate, the Broken Lóng Body temper material, the Radiant Heart story item, the Legacy outfit, and the With Heart and Blood Gold trophy.
A note on conflicting database entries: some sources list the Aureate’s location simply as “Mount Soulrend — defeat Zuo Shang,” and Game8’s Aureate page tags that boss with the “Diverging Paths” chapter. That tag is a database error — the prologue Zuo Shang duels award nothing, per the Zuo Shang boss page. There is only one Aureate in the game: the True Lóng’s drop. The Fallen Dream simply counts as part of the Mount Soulrend region, which is why region-level lists look different from route-level guides. Verified against PowerPyx’s collectible log and KeenGamer’s endings guide.
Golden Sword Mechanics: The Five-Sword Burst
The Aureate’s kit is a stacking detonation engine, and the five-sword burst is its heart.
- Golden Lóng Sword. Switching to this weapon — or parrying a blue-flash attack — summons a massive Golden Lóng Sword that strikes the enemy. Free damage on every swap and every perfect parry: the weapon rewards the exact skills the finale just spent two phases teaching you.
- Living Sword. A heavy attack inside a combo summons a Living Sword. Three seconds later it strikes automatically; if the enemy does not block, the sword stays embedded for 20 seconds.
- Sword Energy Burst. The moment five Living Swords are embedded, they detonate together. This is the burst the whole kit is building toward — five embedded swords is effectively a damage multiplier you plant one heavy attack at a time.
- Radiant Lóng Sword Formation (L2 Power Surge). Consumes one Sha-Chi Essence to summon numerous Living Swords that strike the enemy. Unblockable — and because it floods the field with swords at once, it is the fastest legal route to a full five-embed detonation.
The practical loop writes itself: open with the Golden Lóng Sword switch-in strike, seed Living Swords with heavy attacks, keep the target staggered so embeds land unblocked, and fire Radiant Lóng Sword Formation when the fifth slot is close. Against bosses, time the detonation for the post-stagger punish window, where the enemy cannot block and eats the full burst.
Traits and Leveling
| Level | Trait | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Strategist: Ranged Assault | Effect text: community verification in progress. |
| 10 | A Thousand Blades Lv. 1 | Enhances the blade-storm identity — more summoned steel per string. |
| 15 | Strategist: Formation Breaker | Effect text: community verification in progress. |
| 25 | Strategist: Iron Wall | Effect text: community verification in progress. |
Level-1-to-60 growth mirrors the other top one-handers at 324 to 2,236 Damage — the Aureate is not numerically unique, it is mechanically unique. Its value is the summon economy, not the stat line.
Soul Tempering: The Grand Design
The same duel that drops the Aureate also drops its temper material, the Broken Lóng Body — the True Lóng’s shattered golden vessel. Bring it plus 5,000 Remnant Dust to Myst and the Aureate tempers into The Grand Design:
After triggering a Sword Energy Burst, gain Grand Design Empowerment, greatly empowering the phantom weapon summoned by your next Grand Design skill:
- Phantom Firearms: the number summoned increases to 5.
- Phantom Great Hammer: becomes a flaming great hammer that creates a burning area on impact.
- Phantom Iron Umbrella: fires homing darts in four directions.
Read that against the base kit: the five-sword burst you were already building toward now feeds your next phantom weapon skill. The detonation is no longer the end of the combo — it is the midpoint. The material comes from the weapon’s own boss, so there is no reason to wait.
Verdict
The Aureate is what a finale weapon should be: mechanically tied to the boss who wielded it first, numerically honest, and stylish enough to justify carrying into New Game Plus just to watch enemies sprout golden swords. Its only flaw is timing — by the time you hold it, the campaign is over. Treat it as the reward lap it is.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Aureate missable?
Yes, in the standard sense: pass The Last Chance bell with an incomplete checklist and the golden portal never opens — the weapon is gone for that playthrough. Everything on the checklist can be finished before that bell, and the weapon carries into New Game Plus once earned.
Does the Aureate work well in New Game Plus?
It is one of the best NG+ carries in the game — top-tier one-handed stats at level 60, a summon kit that trivializes early enemies, and a temper form that scales with the phantom weapon skills you unlock later.
Do Living Swords count if the enemy blocks the embed strike?
No. Per the in-game art text, the sword only remains embedded if its 3-second strike is not blocked. Against shielded or defensive enemies, stagger them first or open with the unblockable Radiant Lóng Sword Formation.
