FAQ

Is Meng Hua the final boss in Phantom Blade Zero?
She is the final boss of the normal ending. The true ending route continues past her through a golden portal at the top of Soulrend Cliff into a final duel with Zuo Shang, the True Lóng.
What does Meng Hua drop?
The Lady's Fan, a Level 25 dual-wield main weapon, plus two Soul Tempering materials: The Lady's Crown and Herald's Lingering Threads, which upgrades the Puppeteer's Bell into Abyssal Bell.
How many phases does the Meng Hua fight have?
Five. The Puppet Scavenger, then Heartpiercer and Cavalrybane, then the puppets Yubi and Yuding, then Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil, and finally Meng Hua.
How do you survive Meng Hua's ultimate attack?
Pick up the dark fragments that appear on the arena floor. Collecting them is what counters her world-ending ability in the final phase.

Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil, awaits at Soulrend Cliff

Who Is Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil?

Meng Hua is the last wall between Soul and the truth: the “Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil,” whose cult of desperate worshippers spread across the Wulin before the game begins. Rock Paper Shotgun’s boss index places her at number 60 of 61, fought on Mount Soulrend near the Soulrend Cliff Bell — and KeenGamer’s roster names her the final boss of the normal ending. Her archive entry reveals the horror under the devotion: a puppet vessel built over three hundred days of slaughter, once a member of the “Eleven,” whose consciousness fused with the Blight after her battle with Inanis.

Reaching the Soulrend Cliff Finale

The run-up matters as much as the duel. KeenGamer’s walkthrough flags The Last Chance Bell as the game’s final point of no return: rest there, spend your Soul Tempering materials, and confirm every purple-marked Tale you care about is done, because past it you are locked into the ending sequence until the credits. The climb before it is not empty — you meet the Crusher and the Saw at The Giant’s Lair, find the last of Cui’s storyline at a mountain camp, and can grab Xuan Li’s final Memory Flower before the gate. The full ascent is in our Mount Soulrend walkthrough.

The Boss Rush, Phase by Phase

Per Maxroll’s Soulrend Cliffs walkthrough, “fighting Meng Hua” is really a five-phase gauntlet of everything the Order has left:

  1. The Puppet Scavenger. A familiar face opens the show. Maxroll’s tip is blunt: stand close and use Battleforged to nullify most of this phase entirely. Treat it as a warm-up, not a threat.
  2. Heartpiercer and Cavalrybane, Elite Shadow Wardens. Two Elite Shadow Wardens at once — both have their own entries in the complete boss list. Focus one down immediately; splitting your damage drags out the window where both are alive.
  3. Yubi and Yuding. The two great puppets team up. The one attack to respect is Yuding’s sideways jade slash — dodge it the same way you did in your earlier story encounter with her, then punish the recovery.
  4. Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil. A herald with a moveset similar to Dusk from the Village of Lu: he summons puppets to fight for him and fills the arena with chaos fire and chaos orbs. Keep moving, clear the adds, and do not greed — his ranged pressure punishes long combos.
  5. Meng Hua herself. Now the real fight begins.

Meng Hua’s Own Phase: The Dark Fragment Mechanic

Raiders’ data logged by RaiderKing puts Meng Hua at roughly 166,590 HP with a 30,690 Sha-Chi pool, with no elemental weakness — you cannot cheese her with a fire or ice build. Her signature is a world-ending ability that will wipe you if ignored. The counter, per Maxroll: dark fragments spawn on the arena floor, and you must pick them up to neutralize the attack. This is a scripted mechanic, not a DPS check — the moment the cast begins, stop attacking, sprint the fragments, and only then return to offense. Build damage around Sha-Chi management between casts: parry her committed strings, Ghoststep the red flashes, and save Power Surges for the window after she completes a cast.

Rewards: The Lady’s Fan, The Lady’s Crown, and Herald’s Lingering Threads

Victory pays out immediately, and the haul is worth the gauntlet:

  • The Lady’s Fan — a Level 25 dual-wield main weapon (340 damage / 126 Guard Break per IGN’s weapons table). Its Arcane Sigils kit channels burn, lightning, ice, and chaos effects, and DualShockers ranks it among the game’s best despite a steep mastery curve. Full arts breakdown in our The Lady’s Fan guide.
  • The Lady’s Crown — Soul Tempering material from the same fight.
  • Herald’s Lingering Threads — Soul Tempers the Puppeteer’s Bell into the Abyssal Bell through Myst in Pangzhen’s underground tavern, alongside 5,000 Remnant Dust.

Beating her also pops All Dreams Must End, a Gold trophy.

The Fork After Meng Hua: Normal Ending vs. True Ending

What happens after the fight is decided by what you finished before The Last Chance. KeenGamer’s endings guide counts four endings: the true ending (Final Battle), Lóng’s Roar, Annihilation (the default most first runs land on), and the 66 Days-exclusive Undying Grudge. The game checks your progress the moment Meng Hua falls. If every purple-marked true ending requirement is complete, a golden portal opens at the top of Soulrend Cliff leading to the Fallen Dream and one more duel — Zuo Shang, the True Lóng, boss number 61, who drops the Aureate sword and the With Heart and Blood Gold trophy. Miss anything, and Meng Hua’s ending plays out without him. Check your standing before the point of no return in our true ending guide and the all endings guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Meng Hua harder than Zuo Shang?

Community consensus treats Zuo Shang, the True Lóng as the harder fight — he is the secret superboss with a heavier moveset, whereas Meng Hua’s gauntlet tests endurance and the dark fragment mechanic more than raw duel difficulty.

Can you miss The Lady’s Fan?

No. It is a guaranteed main-story drop from the normal ending sequence; only the true ending’s Aureate and the optional fights can be locked out by missing requirements.

Do you refight all five phases if you die to Meng Hua herself?

The phase structure checkpoints within the finale are still being community mapped; play as if the gauntlet must be cleared in one run, and top up healing items at The Last Chance before committing.
